Social geographies of seasonal labor migration in rural western India
In this dissertation, I study the seasonal migration of landless communities in rural western India. My research explains how labor migration has transformed gender, caste, and class relations in the drylands of Maharashtra state in India. I study labor migration as a social process, which accommodates the flows of capital yet expands the literature to account for the flows of ideas and norms. I conducted research for this dissertation during Summer 2014 and 2015-16 in six villages by applying qualitative field research methods and archival research at two archives in India.
In this dissertation, I find that the impacts of seasonal labor migration on class and caste-based social relations in rural Maharashtra in labor home communities are illuminated in quotidian class and caste politics that have reconfigured rural social relations of production. Second, through a gendered spatiotemporal analysis of seasonal migration of rural laborers, I show how masculinity at the margins of the society is iteratively constructed both in opposition to dominant forms of masculinity, as well as through the continued exploitation of women’s productive and reproductive labor. Lastly, by focusing on the migration infrastructure, including brokers or labor intermediaries who facilitate labor recruitment, intra-rural labor migration, and disciplining of labor on the cane fields of western India, I show how the intermediaries are embedded in the labor geographies of sugar production, which belies the stereotyping of brokers as exploitative. Activities of fisheries co-operative societies in India to boost up and optimise the resources and economy of farmers: a review
Fisheries within India have significant financial, nutritional and socio-economic development prospects. The country has a diversified natural fishery resource. Fishermen have continuously undertaken fisheries activity throughout the country over decades and fisheries co-operatives have now been developed for cumulative production and effective regulation of fishery activities. It was observed that there have been many inconsistencies, mostly in the management of fisheries co-operatives; a few were effectively handled under active supervision and government backing, whereas many co-operatives are facing various problems for their existence. Effective administration of fisherman's co-operatives is critical for increasing fishing productivity and the socio-economic growth of fishermen. Co-operatives can help fishermen develop their skills and gather information about technology, marketing, and management. Co-operatives can improve productivity, processing, storing and transportation capabilities while also meeting financial demands. As a result, co-operative organisations may contend with multinational corporations by integrating competent management abilities with co-operative power. To do this, a nationwide research project focusing on different elements of fisheries co-operatives is recommended. The need for appropriate policy implications for such sustainable management of fisheries co-operatives in accordance with current technical advancements in the sector of aquaculture, environmental degradation and global warming has been highlighted

Intel 8085 Microprocessor Simulation Tool OneX Simulator
In spite of the advancement in computer architecture and availability of microprocessors (ex. Intel Core i7 etc.) with speed thousand times greater, microprocessor 8085 is still widely used in academia for education and research purposes. To make the microprocessor 8085 more accessible and portable, many simulators for the same have been introduced over the past years with various level of user friendliness. This paper proposes a simple yet powerful enhanced simulator, namely OneX which is capable of real time code parsing, error handling and label parsing for different addresses. High expression of mesothelin in plasma and tissue is associated with poor prognosis and promotes invasion and metastasis in gastric cancer
Mesothelin (MSLN), a tumor-associated antigen, is upregulated in various malignancies, including gastric cancer (GC). In addition, MSLN is found in the blood-stream of affected individuals, where it is referred to as soluble MSLN-related protein (SMRP). This study aims to investigate the role of MSLN in GC and evaluate its potential as a plasma biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis. Toward that end, GC tissues were obtained, upon signed consent, from affected individuals undergoing surgery or endoscopy (n = 82). Quantitative RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry were performed to determine MSLN expression. Simultaneously, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was mined to evaluate global status of MSLN gene expression in gastric cancer. Next, in vitro cell-culture studies were conducted to evaluate MSLN-driven proliferation properties. Using ELISA, sera from 55 GC-affected individuals were tested for MSLN level. Additionally, plasma mesothelin levels were compared in 6 cases before and after surgery. Upregulated MSLN expression was found in GC tissues, compared to adjacent normal tissues (p < 0.001). Cell culture studies with a MSLN-overexpressing stable GC line showed increased cell proliferation and invasion with ectopic MSLN. Additionally, gene-set-enrichment-analysis (GSEA) revealed an association of MSLN with the genes involved in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and G2/M checkpoint. GC-affected cases showed higher serum MSLN levels, compared to healthy controls, with rapid decrease post-surgery. We found that MSLN upregulation correlates with poor clinical outcome and promotes growth advantage to GC cells in vitro. With further experimental evidences, we propose that MSLN could potentially be used as a plasma biomarker for diagnosis of GC
