    Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms and infections: Roles of extracellular molecules

    Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonization and biofilm formation is responsible for numerous infections, including chronic infections in cystic fibrosis lung, diabetic foot ulcers, burn wounds, urinary tract infections, eye infections, hospital acquired infections, which lead to morbidity and mortality. Biofilm formation is triggered through Quorum sensing (QS) mechanism and via the QS mechanism, P. aeruginosa populations activate various genes that facilitate secretion of extracellular molecules including extracellular DNA, polysaccharides, proteins, pyocyanin, and siderophores. These molecules are associated with P. aeruginosa colonization, biofilm formation, the stability of the biofilm, protection against antimicrobial agents and shear stress, and virulence. For instance, extracellular DNA plays a prominent role in P. aeruginosa biofilm formation, as well as the stability of biofilm and protection of biofilms against antibiotics. Polysaccharides are mainly accountable for virulence in host and also partly allied with biofilm development. P. aeruginosa exogenous proteins are typically acknowledged as a virulence factor. Pyocyanin is a unique redox molecule specifically secreted by P. aeruginosa and it is a potent virulence factor responsible for oxidative stress and cell death in an infected host. P. aeruginosa also secrets an iron-binding molecule, pyoverdine, which plays a prominent role in iron acquisition required for bacterial metabolism and growth. These molecules complement each other in the establishment of P. aeruginosa biofilms and its associated infection in the host

    RECTIFIED DIFFERENTIAL CRYPTANALYSIS OF 16 ROUND PRESENT Manoj Kumar , Pratibha Yadav and Meena Kumari SAG, DRDO, Metcalfe House, Delhi-110054, India ABSTRACT In this paper, we have suggested rectifications in differential cryptanalysis of ultra-lightweight block cipher PRESENT reduced to 16 rounds. We have shown that proposed differential attack by Wang [3] on 16 round PRESENT can recover at the most 30 subkey bits, although the author has claimed to recover 32 bits of subkey for last two rounds. We have also computed data complexity and success probability for recovering 30 subkey bits accordingly by the differential attack on 16 round PRESENT.     Role of fungal endophytes on mycorrhizal-plant association and its impact on plant fitness

    Along their evolutionary history, plants have established fine-tuned interactions with microorganisms present in their environment. An example of these interactions is the association with diverse groups of endophytes. Microbial endophytes also have the ability to modulate associations between plants and other symbionts, like arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). A sizable body of evidence has shown the beneficial effects of AMF and/or fungal endophytes on plant fitness and development. Additionally, AMF and fungal endophytes living in the same plant may reciprocally interact, with remarkable consequences for the physiology of the host. In this chapter, we overview the state-of-the-art in the analysis of multipartite microbial interactions, with special focus on how belowground endophytes (dark septate endophytes and phosphate-solubilizing fungi) and aboveground endophytes (vertically transmitted endophytes like Epichloë and horizontally transmitted endophytes) interact with AMF and how this plant-microbial interactions affect AMF establishment, development, efficiency, and their overall impact on plant fitness.Fil: Della Mónica, Ivana Florencia.     Applicability of the Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model Data for Basin-Scale Spatiotemporal Drought Assessment

    Drought directly impacts the living organisms and environment, and thereby, its assessment is essential. Different drought indices require different data, which can be obtained based on models or in-situ measurements, demanding a significant amount of effort. Using remotely sensed (RS) data from satellites can facilitate this data acquisition. Nowadays, more and more satellite techniques are rising, highlighting the need to assess the accuracy of their data and the reliability of the results obtained by employing them. The Wet-environment Evapotranspiration Precipitation Standardized Index (WEPSI) has shown good performance in drought monitoring and assessment, especially for agricultural purposes. This chapter employs the Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model (GLEAM) data to investigate its applicability in the Lempa River basin drought assessment using WEPSI. In this order, evaluated data obtained from the Water Evaluation and Planning system (WEAP) were used as the basis for comparison. Precisely, a comparison was made with GLEAM and WEAP-based data as well as WEPSI time series based on these two datasets. The results show a relatively high similarity between these two datasets and calculated WEPSI drought indices.
