Supervised Learning Approach for Intrusion Detection in Unbalanced Network Traffic
No full textIntrusion detection systems (IDS) serve as critical sentinels in network security, assuming a paramount role in identifying and mitigating potential threats. With the evolution of our digital landscape, robust and productive intrusion detection mechanisms have become increasingly imperative. The significance of IDS lies in their ability to safeguard network resources’ integrity, confidentiality, and availability. In an era where cyber threats constantly evolve in complexity and scale, IDS serves as the front line of defence, tirelessly monitoring network traffic to pinpoint suspicious activities and mitigate potential security breaches. To address the class imbalance problem, the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) was applied to pre-process the CIC-IDS 2017 and NSL-KDD 2009 datasets. Advanced machine learning technique is harnessed to enhance IDS capabilities, specifically through utilising Support Vector Machines (SVM) for subsequent classification tasks. The experimental outcomes on both datasets unveil exceptional accuracy of 99% and performance across multiple intrusion types, underscoring the effectiveness of our SVM-based approach in strengthening IDS

No full textRapid development in the current economic situation has led to an increase in carbon emissions and to find sustainable solution to deal with this problem. Co-gasification of biomass with municipal solid waste is gaining significant importance to utilize the energy content of both raw materials judiciously and efficiently. This current work includes the study of physico-chemical characterization, thermal decomposition of MSW, sugarcane bagasse, rice husk, and their blends with 30:70, 50:50, and 70:30 ratios. Employing a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) under controlled conditions, the Coats-Redfern approach integrated sixteen reaction models to determine kinetic and thermodynamic parameters. No full textBackground: One of the most important psychological concepts in the field of education is academic motivation which directs the students to put all their efforts, time, and energies into much-needed tasks and show a positive attitude toward their studies. Therefore, assessing the academic motivation of nursing students is an important component in nursing education because it can contribute to positive professional growth. Based on academic motivation, institutions can make strategies that increase the retention and engagement of the students and improve their academic performance. The findings of the study are expected to contribute to an in-depth understanding of the contemporary status of motivation and the factors that affect the motivation of nurses in Pakistan. /= / \u3ePurpose: This study aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the mean academic motivation score of undergraduate nursing students in a private nursing school in Karachi? 2. What is the mean score of subtypes of academic motivation of students in undergraduate nursing programs? 3. What are the factors that influence the academic motivation of nursing students of the undergraduate program? Method: A cross-sectional study design and the quantitative research approach were used to address the research questions. Two hundred and twenty undergraduate nursing students were recruited by using a proportionate stratified sampling technique. A self- developed questionnaire was used which consists of 47 questions to calculate academic motivation. /= / \u3eFinding(s): The ANOVA test was applied to find out the similarities or differences among the academic year. The results of the study indicate that Extrinsic Motivation External Regulation (EMExR) is statically different from the other subscales among the study groups (p\u3c 0.05). The year I students was more motivated and Year IV students were least motivated. From all four years, most of the students responded that teaching learning strategies are more effective which enhances their academic motivation, and demand for the studies is too heavy which hinders their motivation. Conclusion: The current research reports a descending trend of motivation and mostly students joined the nursing profession on their family wish. It shows a need for educational interventions and makes strategies that increase the engagement of the students and improve their academic performance
