Switched fuzzy control systems: Exploring the performance in applications
Dimirovski, Georgi M. (Dogus Author) -- Conference full title: EMS 2010 : proceedings : UKSim Fourth European Modelling Symposium on Computer Modelling and Simulation : 17-19 November 2010, Pisa, ItalyIn this paper we propose a concept for building simulation algorithms for switched fuzzy control systems. Using these concepts we have shown the whole process of modeling, stability analysis and design of stabilizing switched fuzzy logic controllers for the hovercraft-vehicle, as a typical nonholonomic system. Using this typical nonholonomic system (the system is subject to constraints involving both, the position and velocity, whereupon it can not be stabilized by any continuous feedback control law) we have also explored the good performance of switched fuzzy systems in comparison to the ordinary T-S fuzzy systems. MATLAB Simulator (Simulink model) and special MATLAB functions for the switched fuzzy controller of the hovercraft vehicle, along with the numerous simulation results, verify the correctness of the proposed concepts.UKSim, USM, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Asia Modelling and Simulation Society (AMSS), Nottingham Trent University
Impact of distributed generation modes in optimal coordination between DG and capacitor simultaneously.
This paper describes the impact of the mode selection in Distributed Generation (DG) has in order to reduce the total power losses in the distribution system when coordination between the DG and capacitor is done simultaneously There are two modes available for the DG to operate which are the Power-Reactive Power (PQ) and Power-Voltage (PV) modes. The coordination between the DG and capacitor is a crucial task that needs to be done during the initial planning stage. Any error in identifying the power output and the location of the DG as well as the size and the location of the capacitor can increase the losses in distribution system. In this paper, some modifications were made on Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) by combining several steps on Artificial Immune System (AIS) will be used. Several cases studies are carried out to see the impact of mode selection on 33-bus distribution system by using MATLAB programming

End to End Wireless Multimedia Service Modelling over a Metropolitan Area Network
Multimedia applications have been the key driving force in converging fixed, mobile and IP networks. A major hurdle in the realisation of this convergence is obtaining Quality of Service from a heterogeneous, best-effort service network. Interactive voice requires strict bounds on delay, jitter and packet losses, video adds significant bandwidth requirements to the network, while Internet only makes its best effort to deliver a packet. Hence, the end-to-end QoS management of heterogeneous networks supporting multimedia services is of paramount importance. This paper presents a performance study of multimedia applications over 802.11 networks within metropolitan area networking environment. Specifically, we study QoS performance of VoIP applications over 802.11, while sharing the network resources with HTTP and video applications. Using the OPNET simulator, we simulate a number of realistic application traffic scenarios and study the network performance by analysing QoS parameters including delay, jitter, MOS, and packet loss rati
Performance modelling of a multiple threshold RED mechanism for bursty and correlated Internet traffic with MMPP arrival process
YesAccess to the large web content hosted all over the world by users of the Internet engage
many hosts, routers/switches and faster links. They challenge the internet backbone to operate at
its capacity to assure e±cient content access. This may result in congestion and raises concerns over
various Quality of Service (QoS) issues like high delays, high packet loss and low throughput of the
system for various Internet applications. Thus, there is a need to develop effective congestion control
mechanisms in order to meet various Quality of Service (QoS) related performance parameters. In this
paper, our emphasis is on the Active Queue Management (AQM) mechanisms, particularly Random
Early Detection (RED). We propose a threshold based novel analytical model based on standard RED
mechanism. Various numerical examples are presented for Internet traffic scenarios containing both the
burstiness and correlation properties of the network traffic
Analytical Evaluation of Energy and Throughput for Multilevel Caches
With the increase of processor-memory performance gap, it has become important to gauge the performance of cache architectures so as to evaluate their impact on energy requirement and throughput of the system. Multilevel caches are found to be increasingly prevalent in the high-end processors. Additionally, the recent drive towards multicore systems has necessitated the use of multilevel cache hierarchies for shared memory architectures. This paper presents simplified and accurate mathematical models to estimate the energy consumption and the impact on throughput for multilevel caches for single core systems
Evolutionary based optimisation of multivariable fuzzy control system of a binary distillation column
Genetic Algorithms (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA) and Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) are population based stochastic search algorithms that categorised into the taxonomy of evolutionary optimisation. These methods have been employed independently to tune a fuzzy controller for maintaining the product compositions of a binary distillation column. An analytical investigation has been conducted to distinguish the optimal tuning approach of the controller among these techniques. Based on simulation results, particle swarm optimisation approach combined with the fuzzy controller is identified as a comparatively better configuration regarding its performance index and computational efficiency. The corresponding author is grateful to the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for supporting the current research
An approximate actual network performance evaluation method
Dimirovski, Georgi M. (Dogus Author) -- Conference full title: UKSim/AMSS 1st International Conference on Intelligent Systems, Modelling and Simulation, ISMS 2010; Liverpool; United Kingdom; 27 January 2010 through 29 January 2010Since early eighties, not too many happened in analytical methods of performance valuation for actual computer and communication networks. The methods of the classic queuing theory (the mean value analysis, the convolution method) adopt unrealistic assumptions. The stochastic queuing network methods are not adequate for investigation of actual networks. Therefore, the paper presents an approximate method based on many-year performance evaluation experience and some heuristics. The approach is based on the notion of the closed route within the computer network under investigation; the complete network being described as a collection of such closed routes. The method was successfully validated by simulation and measurements. Some more complex approximations, feasible due to development of the computing tools, are also proposed
Implementation of ERP system in SMEs
This thesis tries to propose a list of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in the form
of CSFs framework for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
implementation at Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).The research
describe in this thesis tries to test them by going through the experience of ERP
system implementation in SME called Hazelwood Sound & Vision Ltd (HSV).
In a first instance, the author compared implementation models and suggested
most appropriate model for HSV. Furthermore, literature search for critical
success factors of ERP implementation has taken place. This led to a general
CSFs framework for ERP system implementation. At later stage, CSFs were
classified into the phases of selected implementation model. This resulted in
integrated framework which later used for ERP system implementation called
Smart Office in HSV. Through this experience of implementing Smart Office in
HSV, the author determined factors which were critical for the success of the
ERP implementation in HSV and compared them with CSFs found in literature.
The study also examines, through the critical success factors, the impacts and
issues in implementation related to these factors. Findings include: an
increased emphasis upon the determination of clear goals and objectives at the
project outset, and, importantly, vendor support added value in terms of
specialist software knowledge and enhanced project team capability. Results
show that most of the success factors, found in the literature apply to HSV,
although change management, and communication among departments, don‟t
seems to be regarded as top CSFs for HSV.
Implementation is an expensive investment, and difficult to implement, due to
its complexity. It is hoped that knowledge and understanding of these factors
will assist SMEs in successfully implementing ERP and enable them to further
improve their systems in order to maximize returns. Furthermore, by identifying
relevant CSFs for SMEs, managers can better prioritize implementation efforts
and resources to maximize success of ERP implementations. One of the
outcomes of this research is implementation of Smart Office which fulfils the
business needs of the HSV
Dynamic Modeling and Simulation of Marine Satellite Tracking Antenna Using Lagrange Method
Marine Satellite Tracking Antenna (MSTA) is a necessary device in ships for receiving satellite signals when they are sailing on the sea. This paper presents a simple methodology to obtain the dynamic equations of MSTA through Lagrange method, which is fundamental in design of modelbased controllers. The detailed derivation procedure of using basis vectors of coordinate system, is presented. Moreover, modern softwares, such as Maple and Matlab, are used for simulating the dynamic model of MSTA, whose results are compared to that from SimMechanics for validation. The proposed methods and tools can be easily applied on other mechanical systems
