Expression of Alpha-1-Antitrypsin in T-cell lymphocytes

    No full text
I have studied immunoblastic T-cell lymphoma and enteropathy associated T-cell lymphoma using immunohistochemical techniques for the demonstration of AlAT. Cytoplasmic staining for AlAT is present in the malignant cells of both types of T-cell neoplasm which also express CD30 and CD25. Peripheral blood T-lymphocytes on stimulation with mitogen also show granular cytoplasmic expression of AlAT. Time course studies show that this parallels the expression of CD30 and CD25, markers of lymphoid activation. AlAT expression appears therefore to be associated with activation in T-cells. Further studies of subfractionated T-lymphocytes suggest that the expression of AlAT on activation is not restricted to an individual lymphocyte subset. This study demonstrates AlAT mRNA in monocytes, granulocytes and lumphocytes stimulated with con-A, using synthetic oligonucleotide gene probes. Our results confirm AlAT synthesis by these cells. These cells also express exons A and B, exons not expressed in the hepatocyte. Using probes for the individual exons we have demonstrated alternative splicing of exon B in monocytes and lymphocytes.</p

Besides constructing a new building, existing buildings with various uses such as office, restaurant and more, play an important role in the development of a state. Existing buildings are also important to be monitored and maintained, therefore this report will discuss the method used called ‘asset monitoring’. This method is used to ensure all company-owned buildings in good and optimal condition. The objectives of this report are to identify all the procedure of asset monitoring work and problems face in performing this work. The finding from this work is the issue found during performing the monitoring work such as hygiene issues, damage issues and loss issues. In performing this work, there are two methods used to obtain data and information. First, through observation. Observation has been made by visiting the buildings. Second, through interview. In this method, interviewed a person who is experienced in this work, to obtain more detailed information about the procedure. With performing this work, all the company-owned buildings will be maintained and always at an optimal level and can be used in the future without any problems

Design and Implementation of Conveyor Belt Speed Control using PID for Industrial Applications

    No full text
A conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling equipment that moves materials from one location to another. Many kinds of conveying systems are available, and are used according to the various needs of different industries. The purpose of this project is to improve the existing conveyor machine that located at the methodology lab in AL FALAH UNIVERSITY. This paper gives a review of the belt conveyor technology that focuses on the types of drives and the control system or the controller of the belt conveyor using PID controller. This paper highlights the characteristics, performance measure, requirements and the operational procedure of the belt conveyor drives and control systems. Bibliography: leaves 182-217.xx, 217, [18] leaves, [17] leaves of plates : ill. (chiefly col.) ; 30 cm.This study was conducted to determine the etiology of a blight disease of chickpea in south-eastern Australia and the factors affecting disease development. The disease had previously been identified as phoma blight. Pathogenicity testing revealed two isolates subsequently identified as Asochyta rabiei, the first conclusive identification in the southern hemisphere. Greenhouse screening of chickpea varieties identified types resistant to ascochyta blight. The effects of plant age and environmental conditions on disease development were investigated under controlled conditions in growth rooms. Seedlings were more susceptible than older plants. The optimum conditions for ascochyta blight were 20C and a 48-96 h period of leaf wetness. Through field trials it was found that disease intensity increased over time, especially in cv. Desavic. The means of penetration of the chickpea host was established in histological studies. This study provided advance warning of this disease for the expanding chickpea industry, and has allowed the implementation of appropriate disease management strategies. It is recommended that cv. Desavic should not be grown where ascochyta blight is likely to be a problem.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Adelaide, Dept. of Applied and Molecular Ecology, 199

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
