Muench regarding the fact that Lincoln Christian Center in Sacramento, California helped their Japanese friends move safely to Walerga camp [= Sacramento Assembly Center] about 10 miles from Sacramento.The Japanese American Archival Collection documents the people, places, and daily life of Japanese Americans, primarily those who lived in the once thriving community of pre-war Florin in the Sacramento region, as well as the conditions in American incarceration camps during World War II.     Born in 1936, August Gus Muench grew up in Tampa\u27s Seminole Heights neighborhood. Muench spent much of his childhood fishing and swimming in local rivers and streams. In 1976, after retiring from the General Telephone Company, Muench became a full-time commercial fisherman. In this oral history interview, Muench discusses his childhood on the bay, his history as a crab fisher, and his current business, Captain Gus\u27 Crabby Adventure. He describes his role as a conservationist and his goals of restoring both the marine and plant environments of the bay. Muench recounts various challenges the bay has faced, including the effects of dredging, sewage water, and stormwater runoff. Muench also discuses his artificial reef business, Oyster Reef Designs, his role as director of the South Shore Intertidal Habitat Project, and his Uzita land preservation goals
