Enhanced image retrieval using spatial information and ontologies
New approaches are essential to improve the inference of semantic relationships from low-level features for image annotation and retrieval. Current research on image annotation sometimes represents images in terms of regions and objects, but pays little attention to the spatial relationships between those regions or objects. Annotations are most frequently assigned at the global level, and even when assigned locally the extraction of relational descriptors is often neglected. To enrich the semantic description of the visual information, the use of spatial relationships offers one way to describe objects in an image more richly and often captures a relevant part of information in the image. In this thesis, new approaches for enhancing image annotation and retrieval by capturing spatial relationships between labelled objects in images are developed. Starting with an assumption of the availability of labelled objects, algorithms are developed for automatically extracting absolute object positional terms and relative terms describing the relative positions of objects in the image. Then, by using order of magnitude height information for objects in the domain of interest, relative distance of objects from the camera position in the real world are extracted, together with statements about nearness of objects to each other in the image and nearness in the real world. A knowledge-based representation is constructed using spatial and domain specific ontologies, and the system stores the asserted spatial statements about the images, which may then be used for image retrieval. The resulting Spatial Semantic Image System is evaluated using precision, recall and F-scores to test retrieval performance, and a small user trial is employed to compare the system’s spatial assertions with those made by users. The approach is shown to be capable of handling effectively a wide range of queries requiring spatial information and the assertions made by the system are shown to be broadly in line with human perceptions

Computational Intelligence in Digital Forensics
Forensic Science has been around for quite some time. Although various forensic methods have been proved for their reliability and credibility in the criminal justice system, their main problem lies in the necessity of highly
qualified forensic investigators. In the course of analysis of evidences, forensic investigators must be thorough and rigorous, hence time consuming. Digital Forensic
techniques have been introduced to aid the forensic investigators to acquire as reliable and credible results as manual labor to be presented in the criminal court system. In order to perform the forensic investigation using Digital
Forensic techniques accurately and efficiently, computational intelligence oftentimes employed in the implementation of Digital Forensic techniques, which has been proven to reduce the time consumption, while maintaining the reliability and credibility of the result, moreover in some cases, it is producing the results with higher accuracy. The introduction of computational intelligence in Digital Forensic has attracted a vast amount of researchers to work in, and leads to emergence of numerous new forensic investigation domains
Thin glomerular basement membrane disease
The term thin glomerular basement membrane disease (TBMD) refers to a condition characterised by thinning of the GBM at electron microscopy examination and, clinically, by isolated hematuria, frequently occurring in other family members, with no extra-renal manifestations. Progression towards chronic renal failure (CRF), although rare, has been reported and blood pressure is high in 30-35% of cases during follow-up. TBMD is generally considered different from Alport syndrome since immunohistological investigation does not show abnormalities of type IV collagen alpha chains in the GBM, as frequently observed in Alport patients; moreover, in familial cases, the disease is transmitted as autosomal dominant trait, rarely observed in Alport syndrome. Genetic studies suggest that TBMD is a heterogeneous disease, but some cases may be related to mutations of COL4A3/COL4A4 genes, thus belonging to the spectrum of type IV collagen diseases. TBMD may arise with other glomerular diseases, most frequently IgA nephropathy, and it remains to be established whether these cases are a casual occurrence or whether a thinner than normal GBM predisposes to immune complex deposition
Kajian Literatur Tentang Tipologi Perilaku Berinternet Generasi Muda Indonesia
Abstract: This paper aims to explore the internet behavior of young generation in Indonesia. The study is conducted by analyzing the relevant literature and references based on the assumption of uses and gratifi cations theory, in order to provide comprehensive mapping. The result shows four types of internet activity namely information, communication and socialization, entertainment and recreation, as well as self-expression. This typology is expected to be a reference for the government and stakeholders to formulate strategic and soluble actions in overcoming the adverse effects of the online activities which tend to lurk young generation in Indonesia.
Non-specific binding of immunoglobulins and protein A-Gold complex with cytoplasmic granules of human mast cells.
A non-specific staining of mast cells by a number of proteins and immunoglobulins
has been observed using different immunocytochemical techniques and different
antisera at light and electron microscopy level. This finding has been related to
an ionic binding of cationic charges, such as aminic groups with an high pI, to
the strongly anionic residues of mast cell granules. This hypothesis is supported
by the lack of non-specific binding achieved using negatively charged chromogens
(i.e. FITC--or Rhodamine-conjugated antibodies) or using cationic dyes before the
immunohistochemical reaction. It is therefore stressed that adequate and accurate
negative controls must always be carried out in order to get correct
interpretations of the staining results
Freeze-drying of bone tissue: immunocytochemistry and enzyme histochemistry on paraffin embedded and low-temperature resin embedded specimens.
A simple protocol of tissue preparation was sought, which would enable marker enzymes of bone cells and extracellular matrix antigens to be localized in the same tissue section with high optical resolution. For this purpose, snap-frozen samples of rat fetal skeletal tissues were dried in a FDU 010 freeze-drying unit (Balzers) for 8-12 h at -50 to -40 degrees C and 0.02 bar. Freeze-dried tissues were either vacuum-infiltrated at 45 degrees C and embedded undemineralized in Paraplast, or vacuum-infiltrated overnight at 4 degrees C and embedded undemineralized in glycol methacrylate. These procedures enabled enzyme cytochemistry for alkaline phosphatase and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, and immunocytochemical staining for collagen types I, III, and laminin to be performed on the same sections. No pretreatment of the sections was necessary to reveal collagen antigenicity. This study reveals the possibility of complementing immunocytochemical studies of extracellular matrix with enzyme cytochemistry and, above all, with the excellent tissue preservation and high resolution afforded by plastic embedding
