Optimal beaconing control for epidemic routing in delay tolerant networks

    No full text
Owing to the uncertainty of transmission opportunities between mobile nodes, the routing in delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) exploits the mechanism of opportunistic forwarding. Energy-efficient algorithms and policies for DTN are crucial to maximizing the message delivery probability while reducing the delivery cost. In this contribution, we investigate the problem of energy-efficient optimal beaconing control in a DTN. We model the message dissemination under variable beaconing rate with a continuous-time Markov model. Based on this model, we then formulate the optimization problem of the optimal beaconing control for epidemic routing and obtain the optimal threshold policy from the solution of this optimization problem. Furthermore, through extensive numerical results, we demonstrate that the proposed optimal threshold policy significantly outperforms the static policy with constant beaconing rate in terms of system energy consumption savings

We study N-component interacting particles (hardcore bosons and fermions) loaded in topological lattice models with SU(N)-invariant interactions based on exact diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group method. By tuning the interplay of interspecies and intraspecies interactions, we demonstrate that a class of SU(N) fractional quantum Hall states can emerge at fractional filling factors ν = N/(N + 1) for bosons [ν = N/(2N + 1) for fermions] in the lowest Chern band, characterized by the nontrivial fractional Hall responses and the fractional charge pumping. Moreover, we establish a topological characterization based on the K matrix and discuss the close relationship to the fractional quantum Hall physics in topological flat bands with Chern number N.School of Natural Sciences and Mathematic

Tuning topological phase and quantum anomalous Hall effect by interaction in quadratic band touching systems

    No full text
Topological materials: interaction-driven topological phases Topological materials are attracting a great deal of attention, and proposals suggesting that topologically trivial materials with a quadratic band touching point can be driven in a topological phase by electronic interactions that break time-reversal symmetry are very appealing. However, because of the very small energy gap protecting such topological phase, this effect remained so far elusive in microscopic calculations. Tian-Sheng Zeng, Wei Zhu and Donna Sheng developed a systematic and controlled scheme that allowed them to determine the accurate phase diagram of a 2D checkboard lattice with a quadratic band touching point, finding that for weak interactions a topological phase emerges. At stronger interactions an intermediate critical phase is observed before a nematic charge-density wave phase develops. This work opens the way to a deeper understanding of other topological systems driven by electronic interactions
