Studio portrait of the Chief Rabbi of ViennaLBIBorn in Hildesheim on February 19, 1835, Moritz Guedemann studied at the Juedisch-theologisches Seminar, Breslau, and became rabbi of Magdeburg in 1862. He became a maggid in Vienna in 1866, and was appointed chief rabbi in 1868. He wrote extensively on Jewish apologetics and education. He died in Baden, near Vienna, on August 5, 1918
