Morison inertia coefficients in orbital flow
No full textInertia coefficients for use in Morison’s equation in conditions of orbital flow are significantly lower than those appropriate to planar oscillatory flow. Circulation around the cylinder resulting from asymmetrical shedding of vorticity generates a lift which opposes the conventional inertia force. The magnitude of the lift and the effect of Reynolds number are discussed on theoretical grounds and with reference to force and velocity measurements in orbital flow. Consideration of the lift leads to the formulation of a modified Morison equation, which is appropriate to all circumstances of wave loading on a cylinder when the incident velocity vector is not collinear with the incident acceleration vector

In their attempt to contruct nationhood in sixteenth-century England, both Morison and Bale adapt late medieval ways of imagining community in order to provoke a shift in allegiance and a reunification of the English nation modelled on patriarchal structures

On the ground floor, Sam Curtis has commissioned a local florist to set-up their stock in the space. Without any pressure to sell the flowers or display them in a certain way, the florist has full creative control. The rest of the gallery will include selected works by guest artists based on the rich history of our close relationship to flowers.
For the exhibition, Anna Francis revisited 3 Brownfield's (previously visited in 2015) to create 3 different Brownfield Ikebana for display within the exhibition. These were accompanied by a limited edition set of 3 postcards, of the Ikebana made in 2012.

No full textLe précédent numéro de « Communication et Langages » a informé nos lecteurs du décès de Maximilien Vox, dont nous publions ci-dessous un extrait de l'ouvrage posthume, « Sous le règne des gourous » ; extrait consacré, précisément, à l'un des gourous, des maîtres qui avaient influencé Vox : au pape de la typographie de l'entre-deux-guerres, à Stanley Morison. Vox avait sinon tous les dons, du moins beaucoup : dessinateur, traducteur, écrivain, orateur de talent ; animateur de génie sachant éveiller les vocations les plus informelles (ce fut mon cas), rassemblant les meilleurs leaders de la communication graphique chaque année à Lurs. Mais Maximilen Vox était, je crois, d'abord un typographe, un homme de la lettre ; typographie et lettre étant entendues ici dans les sens les plus larges, englobant des préoccupations de nature esthétique, historique, philosophique, bref, des préoccupations humanistes.
C'est pourquoi nous croyons être fidèle à cet humaniste de la typographie qu'était Vox en vous donnant à lire le chapitre de son ouvrage consacré au maître moderne en typographie qu'il vénérait, Stanley Morison. Ce texte est suivi d'une étude du caractère qui a valu la célébrité mondiale à Stanley Morison ; le Times New Roman ; c'est l'adaptation d'une conférence prononcée en 1974 en présence de Maximilien Vox, à Lurs, par John Dreyfus, autre compagnon et disciple du grand typographe anglais.
