Il limite e l'infinito. Studi in onore di Antonio Moretto
No full textLa ricerca filosofica di Antonio Moretto segna una tappa fondamentale e innovativa all'interno della letteratura scientifica a proposito del rapporto tra filosofia e matematica. Questo vale in primo luogo, ma non solo, per una rinnovata comprensione della filosofia classica tedesca che rendeva necessario mostrare la rilevanza della conoscenza congiunta della storia e della teoria della matematica in autori come Kant e Hegel. Questi studi, assieme a quelli che egli ha dedicato a Descartes, Leibniz, Wolff e ancora a molti altri grandi filosofi, mostrano come i concetti matematici di finito e infinito racchiudano, nelle loro esigenze tecniche, un'urgenza profondamente umana, quella di dare senso, “mensurare” nell'accezione più ampia del termine. Sotto questo profilo, il passaggio per le scienze esatte nelle ricerche di Moretto non è affatto astratto, ma costituisce il necessario cammino verso quella che Kant avrebbe chiamato “la porta stretta”, varcata la quale meglio si comprendono anche le altre parti del sistema della filosofia, così come proprio Moretto ha dimostrato dedicandosi a discutere altresì questioni di etica, di filosofia della medicina, psicologia della percezione e – perché no? – della poesia di Albrecht von Haller. Coerentemente con questo percorso di ricerca, gli Autori degli scritti che costituiscono questo volume si sono impegnati a mostrare la ricchezza di significati e valenze che i concetti di limite e di infinito, tra i più distintivi delle ricerche di Moretto, possono assumere all'interno delle scienze filosofiche
Who is the author of the 1876 Stefano manuscript?
Full text linkFor over one hundred years the Stefano manuscript was a private document in the possession of the Baccich family and descendants. It told a story of the 1875 Stefano shipwreck as narrated by the shipwreck survivor and the founding family patriarch Miho Baccich. In these circumstances the question of authorship of the manuscript was immaterial and did not arise as an issue. However, with the publication of the manuscript the author‟s name, or names, need to be formally attributed to it. It turns out that this is not such a clear-cut matter.
As we shall see, all informed sources attributed the authorship, and the ownership, of the manuscript to Miho Baccich. But the manuscript itself was written by Canon Stjepan Skurla – a priest from Miho‟s hometown of Dubrovnik. The question then arises: should Skurla also be considered as an author of the manuscript, or, even as the sole author (as some would have it)
Increasing the effectiveness of procurement decisions: The value of big data in the procurement process
No full textBig data are a commonly discussed topic, and their value in marketing and sales has been thoroughly investigated. Although some authors have also discussed their relevance to purchasing and supply management, the literature on this topic remains scant. This paper aims to investigate the role of big data in supporting the procurement process and the implementation of procurement practices. The main benefits of such procurement practices for companies are highlighted. By presenting the results of a focus group of procurement professionals and experts and discussing four exploratory case studies (supported by secondary data analysis), the paper addresses 1) how (and in which format) big data affects different activities in the procurement process and 2) which benefits procurement professionals can expect from adopting big data
