Dynamic Pile Response During Vibratory Driving and Modal-Based Strain Field Mapping
For offshore wind turbines (OWTs), the monopile comprises the most common type of foundation and vibratory driving is one of the main techniques for monopile installation (and decommissioning). In practice, prior to pile installation, a pile driving analysis is performed to select the appropriate installation device and the relevant settings. However, pile penetration results from a complicated vibrator-pile-soil interaction and better understanding of the latter is necessary for an efficient installation process. During the course of installation, the interface and boundary conditions of the pile continuously alter due to the soil layering and the non-linearity of the soil reaction. In this paper, a set of experimental data from an onshore experimental campaign are employed in a numerical scheme to identify the pile strain field based on in vacuo modes of simpler yet related systems. Dynamic amplication in a periodic structure subject to a moving load passing a transition zone: Hyperloop case study
Hyperloop is an emerging high-speed transportation system in which air resistance is minimised by having the vehicle travel inside a de-pressurised tube supported by columns. This design leads to a strong periodic variation of the stiffness (among other parameters) experienced by the vehicle. Also, along its route, the Hyperloop will encounter so-called transition zones (e.g., junctions, bridges, etc.), where the properties (e.g., support stiffness) are different than for the rest of the structure. In railway engineering, increased degradation is seen in the vicinity of these transition zones, leading to increased frequency of maintenance. This work investigates response amplification mechanisms in a Hyperloop system that arise due to the combination of a transition zone and the structure having a periodic nature. Density Functional Approach Toward the Adsorption of Molecular Hydrogen as Well as the Formation of Metal Hydride on Bare and Activated Carbon-Supported Rhodium Clusters
A systematic density
functional theory (DFT) investigation has been performed to understand
adsorption phenomenon as well as the mechanism of hydrogen molecule
dissociation to form metal hydride, catalyzed by bare and activated
carbon-supported small rhodium clusters. H–H bond length of
hydrogen molecule adsorbed on activated carbon-supported rhodium cluster
is found to be higher. Five- as well as six-member rings of the activated
carbon act as the support for hydrogen-adsorbed rhodium clusters.
Rhodium cluster linked with five-member ring of activated carbon has
the enhanced ability to activate hydrogen molecule. DFT-evaluated
transition states show lower activation energies in the dissociation
of hydrogen molecule catalyzed by activated carbon-supported rhodium
clusters, whereas dissociation of hydrogen molecule catalyzed by Rhn, supported on activated carbon, follows two
pathways. First, hydrogen atoms stay on Rhn after dissociation, and in the second, hydrogen is dislodged from
Rhn to carbon of the activated carbon,
which is called spillover. The first pathway is observed to be more
favorable in comparison to the second pathway. However, the supported
Rh4 exhibits equal feasibility for both the pathways

In this project we explore the presence of ambiguity in textual and visual media and its influence on accurately understanding andcapturing bias in news. We study this topic in the context of supportingmedia scholars and social scientists in their media analysis. Our focuslies on racial and gender bias as well as framing and the comparisonof their manifestation across modalities, cultures and languages. Socio-Economic Factors Affecting Agricultural Production and Income in Bangladesh
The study assessed some factors that determine agricultural production and income in Bangladesh. The factors that were addressed in the study were land, labour, capital, ethnicity, gender etc. It aimed to analyze the socio-economic characteristics of the farmers in Bangladesh, to investigate the level of agricultural production activities and to identify the agricultural production problems in Bangladesh. The target population was the farmers of eight divisions in Bangladesh. The data were obtained from structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and FGD. Multiple linear regression of model fourteen explanatory variables was used to analyze the characteristics of the factors mentioned above in context of farm production and income. The result of data analysis showed that the variables such as gender, age, years of schooling, service area, operational farm size, cow-shed, electricity, radio, mobile phone, television, computer, bicycle, motorcycle etc. affect farmers’ production and income. The research also found gender parity and small farm holding in farming. There should be provision of effective agricultural information dissemination services by using ICT tools in farming. Special emphasis should be given to eliminate gender disparity and resolve small farm holding problem to ensure farm production and income generation
