No full textThe exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University 1989.<p>This exhibition has been mounted to coincide with the Conference, "Europe Today, organised by the Monash University Centre for European Studies, scheduled to be held on 12 - 15 July 1989. The agenda covers a wide range of subjects relevant to contemporary Europe - politics, economics, languages, literature, the arts and sciences. Material has been grouped under such headings as language policy, the European Parliament, the history of the EEC, economic and political aspects of modern Europe and 1992 - the single market. Separate displays of EEC publications and of journals on European studies are also featured. This is merely a sampling of the extensive holdings of Monash University Library in these areas.</p>Also exhibited is a small selection of publications by members of the Classics Department at Monash Universit

No full textThe exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University from 30 July - 2 October 1998.<p>Photographs from Monash excavations at the site of Ismant el-Kharab, ancient Kellis, in Egypt's Dakhleh oasis are the basis of this exhibition. Items discovered on the site include almost perfectly preserved wooden books (codices), remnants of ancient texts written on papyrus and parchment, and fragments of pottery vessels, known as potsherds. Material from the Rare Books Collection supplements the photographs.</p>Some items kindly loaned by private collector

No full textThe exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University from 27 July - 29 September 2006<br>Opening address given by Melbourne author Gerald Murnane.<p>Sport is an interest, even an enthusiasm, which spans Australian society. This exhibition does not give a detailed history of sport but rather gives researchers an idea of the resources available in the Monash University Library Rare Books Collection should they wish to study the social history of "sport." The items on display range in date from the early nineteenth to the late twentieth century. Although there is a predominance of Australian material, English, American, European material is also included. Sports covered range from football and cricket, through swimming, rowing, golf, boxing and billiards, to big-game hunting, skiing, racing, coursing and rat-catching, a sport much favoured in Melbourne of the 1860s.</p
