Techno-Economic Performance Evaluation of Photovoltaic based Micro-Grid with Energy Management Strategies
The operational performance of grid connected micro-grid system can be affected by many factors e.g. techno-economic sizing, appropriate energy management strategy, geographical locations, grid constrains and electricity energy pricing dynamics. To make renewable energy based micro-grid system more reliable as well as efficient and economically viable, it is imperative to consider a holistic approach and investigate all these factors for design and operation of the micro-grid system. In this work, techno-economic sizing of distributed generator(s) with energy storage are analyzed for operating grid connected PV based system as a micro-grid, even during the possible grid outage period. Energy management strategies have been proposed and evaluated for improving techno-economic performance of the PV based micro-grid system. Performance of the micro-grid system can be significantly improved using appropriate energy management strategies for maximizing the use of local energy resources and battery energy throughput. Impact of electricity energy pricing dynamics has been analyzed for techno-economic operation of the grid connected PV based micro-grids at the selected geographical locations (i.e. Tropical and Nordic climates). The local grid limits on the operation of the micro-grid system has been evaluated for maximizing the local energy resources utilization with consideration of peak demand and energy pricing. The regional energy pricing dynamics and local grid limits have considerable impact on performance of the PV based micro-grid. The maximum penetration of PV based micro-grid (i.e. hosting capacity study) within the distribution power network has been assessed considering the network constraints (e.g. voltage or/and loading of the power lines, etc.) and they have significant impact on PV capacity installations at different buses. The increasing penetration of PV based micro-grid system affects the voltage quality within the distribution network. The reactive power versus voltage (Q-V) droop control technique has been evaluated for managing the voltage profile within the prescribed limits. The Q-V droop function has been implemented in the PV inverter and tested its operation using the real time digital simulator and power hardware- in- loop method for improving the voltage profile within the distributed network. The presented results in this work are going to be useful for promoting the PV based micro-grid within the distribution network
Equilibrium Structure of Non-Synchronously Rotating and Tidally Distorted Binary Stars
The problem of determining the structure of equilibrium structures of stars
distorted by rotation tidal forces has a great importance in astrophysics. Such a problems
will help in better understanding the nature of inner structure of rotating stars and stars in
binary/ or multiple systems. Thus, there is need for in depth investigation the equilibrium
structure of gaseous sphere.
Analytic study of determining the equilibrium structure of rotationally and tidally
distorted stellar models is quite complex. Therefore, investigation attempted to solve such
a problems in some approximate way. In one such attempt Mohan, Saxsena and Agarwal
(62,63) used kippenhahn and Thomas averaging technique together with the results of
Kopal(32) on Roche equipotential, to determine the effects of rotation and tidal forces on
the equilibrium structures of eccentric binaries. They also implemented this approach in
the case of the polytropic models of the stars as well as certain realistic main sequence
stars. Several authors such as Lal(40), Sharma(84), Saini(80), Pathenia(72) used this
method to study some astrophysical problems. However, the problems of determining the
equilibrium structures of non-synchronously rotating binary is not satisfactory tacked so
far.
The thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter one deals with the importance of
studying equilibrium structure of rotating and tidally distorted gaseous spheres. In the
present thesis an attempt has been made to modify the Roche equipotential that takes into
account for non-synchronous rotation and eccentric orbits. Using average technique of
Kippenhahn and Thomas(28) is conjunction with results of modified Roche equipotential.
Kippenhahn and Thomas(28) averaging technique is also discussed briefly in this chapter.
This chapter ends with the brief survey of literature available on this subject and summary
of the work presented in the succeeding chapter.
In chapter II, we firstly discuss the approach of Sepinsky et al.(2007) for
determining the Roche equipotential, which takes into account the motion of mass
elements in non-synchronous, eccentric binary and planetary system. The results of such a
roche equipotential are next used in conjunctions with Kippenhahn and Thomas
averaging technique to develop analytic expressions representing equilibrium structure of
non-synchronously rotating and tidally distorted stellar models. The equilibrium
structures equations marginally deviates from the equilibrium structure equations earlier
discussed by Mohan, Saxena and Agarwal (62,63) for non-synchronously rotation.
The methodology developed in chapter – II has next been used in chapter-III to
determine the equilibrium structure of rotationally and tidally distorted polytropic models.
Certain results of physical parameter have been computed for various polytropic indices
1.5, 3.0 and 4.0. Conclusion based on the present study has finally been discussed
Concurrent infarction in bilateral middle cerebellar peduncles: Rare presentation of stroke
Although some pathologies like demyelination have predilection for middle cerebellar peduncles (MCPs), infarction of bilateral MCP simultaneously is an exceedingly rare presentation of stroke. Patient was a 70-year-old smoker and hypertensive male presented with acute onset vertigo, imbalance while walking and slurred speech for 2 days and examination revealed horizontal nystagmus bilaterally, scanning speech with cerebellar signs and Modified Rankin Score (MRS) of 3. Magnetic resonance imaging brain showed symmetrical areas of diffusion restriction in both MCP, and there was occlusion of bilateral vertebral arteries (partial occlusion of right and complete occlusion of left) and basilar artery in computed tomography angiography. Oral antiplatelet with antihypertensive medication was started along with gait training and speech therapy. Patient had gradual and significant recovery and his MRS improved to 2 after 3 months' follow-up. Hypoperfusion along with atherothrombotic occlusion of vessels can be probable explanation to the bilateral infarction in MCPs which forms important watershed zone in posterior circulation of the brain

Anomaly Based Network Intrusion Detection for IoT Attacks using Convolution Neural Network
IoT is widely used in many fields, and with the expansion of the network and increment of devices, there is the dynamic growth of data in IoT systems, making the system more vulnerable to various attacks. Nowadays, network security is the primary issue in IoT, and there is a need for the system to detect intruders. In this paper, we constructed a deep learning CNN model for NIDS and utilized the NSL-KDD benchmark dataset, consisting of four attack classes, for evaluating the model’s performance. We applied the filter method for feature reduction where highly correlated features are dropped. Our 2D-CNN model achieved an accuracy of 99.4% with reduced loss. Anomaly-Based DNN Model for Intrusion Detection in IoT and Model Explanation: Explainable Artificial Intelligence
IoT has gained immense popularity recently with advancements in technologies and big data. IoT network is dynamically increasing with the addition of devices, and the big data is generated within the network, making the network vulnerable to attacks. Thus, network security is essential, and an intrusion detection system is needed. In this paper, we proposed a deep learning-based model for detecting intrusions or attacks in IoT networks. We constructed a DNN model, applied a filter method for feature reduction, and tuned the model with different parameters. We also compared the performance of DNN with other machine learning techniques in terms of accuracy, and the proposed DNN model with weight decay of 0.0001 and dropout rate of 0.01 achieved an accuracy of 0.993, and the reduced loss on the NSL-KDD dataset having five classes.
