In a previous publication of the author ("Matrimonio de Sol y Cordillera" (A Marriage of Sun and Mountain) 1988), there is a attempt to elucidate that "super-realism" found in "Sol del Trópico" (Tropic Sun), and "Cordillera" (Mountain), two poems included in Gabriela Mistral's "Tala". The following essay goes over the same idea of the abundant presence of super-realistic elements in many sections of the aforesaid volume, but this time the author tries to higlight some of these elements in some other sections of the book

By a phytosociological study, the author underlines a degradation of the deciduous oaks formation of Tala Kitane (Akfadou) linked to the anthropic action. In that case, this deciduous wood of oaks (Quercus canariensis and Q. afares) correspond to a poor and xeric facies of the subassociation defined by Quezel (1956) in Akfadou forest. The abundance of nitrophilous species in our plant community allows us to individualize a local variant. Meddour Rachid. Tala's forty lashes didn't keep her down ? they fanned the flames of individuality and inspired her to embrace a new freedom in the United States. As she developed her own clothing label, her exploration into the creative, cut throat community of Western fashion opened her eyes to the ups and downs of hard work, hard decisions, and hard truths. Two-year follow-up of a thyroid cartilage metastasis from prostate cancer: A case report

    No full text
Few case reports describe metastatic prostate cancer to the thyroid cartilage. While earlier reports identified the metastatic lesions upon developing symptoms, more recent ones have detected them via prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography (PSMA PET). Herein, we report the case of a patient with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer and a PSMA PET-detected lesion in the thyroid cartilage. Over the course of 2 years, he received multiple lines of chemotherapy and hormonal therapy, and his overall disease status fluctuated — some nodal and bony metastases resolved while others appeared anew. His thyroid cartilage lesion, however, slowly progressed in a consistent fashion with increasing uptake on successive PSMA PET images. Apart from mild dysphonia, the patient remained to be asymptomatic from this lesion, and no local therapies were used. To our knowledge, this is the first close follow-up of prostate cancer metastatic to the thyroid cartilage, shedding light on the course of such lesions and helping answer management-related questions, which are particularly relevant as more occult metastases are discovered in the PSMA PET era

Healthy movement behaviours in children and youth during the COVID-19 pandemic: Exploring the role of the neighbourhood environment

    No full text
This paper explores patterns of increased/ decreased physical activity, sedentary and sleep behaviours among Canadian children and youth aged 5-17 years during the COVID-19 pandemic, and examines how these changes are associated with the built environment near residential locations. A cluster analysis identified two groups who were primarily distinguished by the changes in outdoor activities. Compliance to 24-hour movement guidelines was low among both groups. For children, houses (versus apartments) was correlated with increased outdoor activities; proximity to major roads was a barrier. For youth, low dwelling density, and access to parks in high-density neighbourhoods, increased the odds of increased outdoor activities during the pandemic. Our findings can inform future urban and health crisis planning practices by providing new insights into the desirable public health messaging and characteristics of healthy and resilient communities.
