Evaluation of degradation degree of artificially degraded silicone rubber surface by using surface discharge

To establish an evaluation technique of the degradation degree of silicone rubber (SiR) surfaces, we first fabricated artificially degraded SiR surfaces. The fabrication process consisted of 5 steps and a 1-cycle test required 24 h. We fabricated the degraded SiR surfaces by a 1-cycle or a 2-cycle test. Next, the artificially degraded SiR surface was exposed to surface discharge (SD). The hydrophobicity recovery time on artificially degraded SiR surface increased with the increase in SD treatment time. It was found that the degradation degree of the SiR surface can be evaluated by hydrophobicity recovery time after SD treatment.Citation: May Thin Khaing, Takuma Miyake, Tatsuya Sakoda, Uki Kanenari, Yusuke Nishihiro, Evaluation of degradation degree of artificially degraded silicone rubber surface by using surface discharge, Journal of Electrostatics, 128, 103898-103898, 2024-03, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.elstat.2024.10389

Various types of memristive devices have been proposed to achieve information processing through synaptic functions. However, biological synapses have many complicated functions, such as heterosynaptic plasticity and the related neuromodulation, that are difficult to implement in conventional two-terminal memristors because of the requirement for multiple inputs. In this study, simple four-terminal memristive devices consisting of epitaxial thin films of Ti₂₋ₓ are fabricated and their capacity to implement synaptic functions are explored. These devices utilize the two-dimensional variation of the oxygen vacancy distribution in the TiO₂₋ₓ film to realize advanced heterosynaptic functionality, including tunable spike-timing-dependent plasticity, heterosynaptic plasticity mimicking habituation and sensitization, and Pavlovian conditioning, through multiterminal voltage inputs. The present results demonstrate the striking versatility of our four-terminal device for implementing the diverse and complex functions of artificial synapses on a single memristive passive element

Women\u27s Cultural Education and Occupation in Serial Novels in the Early Showa Period : Focusing on Mother by Turumi Yusuke(1929)

This paper examines how the norm of good wife and wise mother was discussed through the usage of the word “educated” in Yusuke Tsurumi’s Mother, serialized in Fujin Club from May 1927 to June 1929. The Fujin Club, started in 1920 by Dai Nippon Yubenkai Kodansha, was a magazine read by many working women and girl students in their early teens to their early twenties. Through collaboration between Seiji Noma, president of Kodansha, who tried to present the mother as an ideal female figure, and author and politician Yusuke Tsurumi, the series Mother was started. It can be considered that Asako, the leading character of Mother, who overcomes various crises in life through ideal education obtained through reading and school, could garner the empathy of the women of those times who dreamt of being independent. However, since success as a working woman was for the progressive future of her son, Asako’s success ultimately gets attributed to the norm of good wife and wise mother. However, rather than seeing the series Mother of the Fujin Club as propaganda, the author would like to consider the significance of the series to lie in its potential as a text through which the Kodansha culture, considered a symbol of anti-cultural education strategically utilized the masses’desire for cultural education.査読研究論文Refereed Paper

Deriving safety constraints for integration of unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace by application of STECA

Thesis: S.M. in Technology and Policy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of Engineering, Institute for Data, Systems, and Society, Technology and Policy Program, 2016.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 129-132).Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) have been used for years especially in the military. However, the operation of UAS in civil aviation has been limited since there are a lot of uncertainties: a regulatory scheme needs to be established and associated technologies need to be developed. This thesis contributes to both technology development and establishing a regulatory scheme for UAS by generating safety constraints using the new methodology developed by Professor Leveson and Dr. Fleming. This methodology is called "'Systems-Theoretic Early Concept Analysis" (STECA) and is based on Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes (STAMP) analysis, which is also developed by the professor. STECA has potential to generate more safety constraints that have not been considered otherwise in the early stage of development and this allows the producer to redesign the entire system with potentially less cost. This thesis illustrates why and how STECA can be powerful to support integration of UAS into NAS. In addition, this thesis actually demonstrates how STECA derives safety constraints as a case study and shows how the safety constraints should be integrated in the system development.by Yusuke Urano.S.M. in Technology and Polic

Plasma xanthine oxidoreductase activity in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes across hospitalized treatment. J Diabetes Investig. 2020.Aims/Introduction: Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) is an enzyme that catalyzes hypoxanthine and xanthine to xanthine and uric acid, respectively. Plasma XOR activity has recently been measured in humans. However, limited information is known about plasma XOR activity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and its changes after short-term glycemic control treatment. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 28 Japanese patients (10 men/18 women) with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were hospitalized to undergo medical treatment for diabetes. Plasma XOR activity, quantified using triple quadrupole mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography, and other clinical parameters were examined at admission and 2 weeks after treatment during hospitalization. Changes in plasma XOR activity after treatment during hospitalization and associated clinical parameters were assessed. Results: At the time of admission, the median plasma XOR activity was 83.1 pmol/h/mL, with a wide range of 14.4–1150 pmol/h/mL. Multiple regression analysis identified serum aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase levels as significant and independent factors correlating with the baseline plasma XOR. Two weeks of treatment during hospitalization was associated with a significant decrease in plasma XOR activity. Changes in serum aspartate transaminase were also the only significant and independent factor correlating with changes in plasma XOR activity. Conclusions: A close relationship was observed between plasma XOR activity and liver transaminases in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, cross-sectionally, and also across treatment during hospitalization
