The Influence of Personal and Social-Interactive Engagement in Social TV Web Sites

    No full text
Traditional retail and online brands seek new ways to build a platform to enable customers to connect with each other and encourage consumer engagement. Purpose of this article is to understand how social media is transforming consumer engagement and redefining commercial marketing strategies using video on the web, mobile devices and traditional TV. The article develops and estimates a conceptual model of how experiential Personal Engagement and Social-Interactive Engagement influence active and passive behavior in emerging form of television that supports and integrates social interaction. The article describes how personal engagement with the content and social-interactive engagement (resulting from the perceived sense of community, intrinsic enjoyment and participation experience) differently influence both active and passive behavior. We test hypotheses by estimating a structural equation model with survey data from a sample of 814 US and European social TV users. Invariance analyses show the different effect of gender, and level of interaction provided (social features) by the social TV website. Implications for contextual adverts and social commerce are discussed

Effetto Mirabello.

Monza Park is composed of different realities, consisting in historic and rural buildings, ancient villas and remarkable landscape glimpses. All these elements are living together in a harmonic way, keeping alive the memory of the past and inspiring positive vibes in those who find themselves walking alongside them. Reaching the center of the Park, people suddenly get in touch with a fascinating place, the complex of Mirabello. Structures of different epochs are located in this area and, unfortunately, some of them are in a very poor state of preservation. The main one is represented by villa Mirabello, an example of the typical Lombard villa built by the will of the noble family Durini in 1665, under the supervision of the architect Gerolamo Quadrio. The Villa is connected to another building through a tree-lined avenue: villa Mirabellino, erected as a dépendance under Cardinal Durini in the 18th century. During this century Mirabello reached the height of its splendor, becoming a landmark and a cultural and artistic center. The current configuration derives from stylistic stratifications occurred over time and due to multiple changes of the intended use and ownership. To this day some of the original architectural peculiarities remain, but high degradation phenomena are still noticeable despite the restoration interventions already performed. The thesis focuses on the manor house and the main goal is the conservative restoration of its historical heritage. This objective will be supported by localized interventions of structural consolidation and particular attention will be given to one of the two building’s turrets, where a new staircase will be realized to reach a panoramic point of view. The last part of our study will revolve around the valorization of all the buildings of the complex. “Effetto Mirabello” represents an ambitious project, that would like to contribute to the promotion of the local tourism, culture and economy. The functions planned inside the area will have a twofold result: on one side they will improve its attractiveness, while transforming it into a reference point for the growth of the different realities located inside the Park

    The “Impossible” Circle

“More than 30 years ago Paolo Brenni went to the Astronomical Observatory in Palermo to check the Ramsden Circle and manage its shipment to Florence for a restoration treatment at the Science and Technology Foundation ...” The first author of this poster had the honour of working with Paolo and wants to remember him here by presenting the restoration of the Ramsden Circle, a unique instrument in the world, now part of the collection of the Astronomical Observatory in Palermo. Unpublished details relating to the construction technique will be reported, revealing the perfection of an instrument that was highly admired in the late 18th-century scientific world. In consideration of the technological knowledge of the time, its construction was really challenging (Ramsden called it "titanic") and reached the top of the best available technology in those years. Giuseppe Piazzi (1746-1826), founder and first director of the Observatory in Palermo, discovered the first asteroid, Ceres Ferdinandea (1801), and carried out observations for the two editions of his famous Catalogues of stars (1803 and 1814) by using this instrument. Piazzi considered the Circle a masterpiece. Even today -two centuries later- the talent of a maker like Ramsden (admitted to conferences only as an auditor!) amazes anyone. By inserting a telescope in a circular scale to achieve higher accuracy in star position measurements he was able to deliver to Piazzi a brilliantly and originally designed instrument, created with the tools of the time. However, how did he do that? We will also try to clarify how Ramsden succeeded in the difficult construction of the Palermo Circle
