Determination of rain rate distribution and rain cell size from the Malaysian meteorological radar data

    Get PDF
Future satellite mobile communication systems designed for mobile user applications will use extremely high frequency carriers to provide more capacity and smaller equipment. At these frequencies, the extra attenuation due to rain is a primary cause of communications impairment on satellite-earth paths, especially above 10 GHz. Rain seriously influences the performance of a communications satellite link. The ability of radar to scan a wide area around the radar site and not just a particular path made it a very attractive for many types of investigations. Radar can be used to measure the rainfall rate indirectly. The main objective of this project is to find the rain rate, rain cell size distribution of local rain and compare the rain rate and rain cell size distribution with ITU-R recommendations. For this study, the data for 0.50 elevation angle and 0.5 km range bin is used by Plan Position Indicator (PPI) scan. This project gives the value of two important parameters in microwave or satellite link design. That is the rainfall rate (^o.oi) and the rain cell size (Dom) distributions. The results give an acceptable correlation with the international telecommunication union- radio communication sector (ITU-R) recommendations. The proposed rain rate distribution model can be used to determine the rain at the percentage of interest. This is useful for microwave link system planning and link budget estimation

Model of Pulsed Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) using RL Circuit

This article presents a model of pulsed Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) using RL circuit. There are several mathematical models have been successfully developed based on the initial, ignition and discharge phase of current and voltage gap. According to these models, the circuit schematic of transistor pulse power generator has been designed using electrical model in Matlab Simulink software to identify the profile of voltage and current during machining process. Then, the simulation results are compared with the experimental results.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i2.668

Comparison studies of electrical discharge machining (EDM) process model for low gap current

    Get PDF
This paper aims to compare the material removal rate, V between a Dimensional Analysis (DA) model, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model and an experimental result for a low gap current of an Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) process. The data analysis is based on a copper electrode and steel workpiece materials. The DA and ANN model that have been developed and reported earlier by authors are used to compare the material removal of EDM process. The result indicated that the ANN model provides better accuracy towards the experimental results

Power generator of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) system

    No full text
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a non-conventional manufacturing process of removing materials. The uniqueness of EDM process is the removal of the unwanted materials without direct contact between the electrode and workpiece. EDM power generator provides power source of EDM system. It supplies voltage and current to produce spark erosion. Power supply and pulse generator are two important parts in EDM power generator. By choosing the proper power supply and pulse generator to the application, a great result for Material Removal Rate (MRR) can be achieved. Efficiency of EDM power generator depends on the configurations of power supply used. This study reviews and summarizes some previous development of EDM power generator and their effectiveness

Bridging faith and reason: examining sertu concerns through Islamic and scientific lenses

    No full text
The examination of "sertu," a significant purification practice within Islam, from both Islamic and scientific angles, underscores its importance, especially in scenarios where water availability is limited. It entails purifying objects tainted by dog and pig waste. This investigation delves into sertu from Islamic and scientific perspectives, scrutinizing issues and distinguishing between sertu and samak. To fulfill the specified objectives, this research scrutinized scientific and Islamic literature sourced from academic journals, Dewan Bahasa Pustaka, and pertinent Malaysian guidelines for data collection. Furthermore, it analyzed the viewpoints of scholars representing major schools of thought such as Malikites, Shafiites, Hanbalites, and Hanafites. The researchers noted a dearth of scientific perspectives compared to Islamic ones. Additionally, a differentiation between sertu and samak arises, where samak pertains to the cleansing of animal skin using sharp instruments for specific purposes. The study concludes by advocating for further exploration to expand the discourse surrounding sertu from scientific standpoints

Differentiation of fatty acid composition of butter adulterated with lard using gas chromatography mass spectrometry combined with principal componenet analysis

Butter is high priced product; as a consequence, butter can be subjected for adulteration with low price components such as lard. The presence of lard in any products is not allowed for Muslim and Jewish, therefore, its presence must be identified. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was successfully used to detect and discriminate butter from adulterated with lard. Results were presented in the form of chromatogram. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to interpret the data and provided a good grouping of samples with 55.8% of the variation accounted for by PC 1 and 21.5% were accounted for by PC 2. All the lard containing samples formed a separate group from the samples that were free of lard. This method can be developed into a rapid method for detecting the presence of lard in food samples for Halal authentication
