No full textThe article is dedicated to the memory of the deceased priest Professor Janusz Tarnowski, who left behind an enormous huge scientific achievements. Janusz Tarnowski was primarily the author of a new trend of Christian personal and existential education, which the primary base is a dialogue and Christian education. In his pedagogical activity was a continuator of Janusz Korczak’s ideas enriched with the approach of dialogue and coexistence with God. He wrote about antipedagogical behavior and shown how to bring up correctly giving an example of his co-pupils cases. As a man who survived two wars, and served the ordained ministry in the Warsaw Uprising he paid a particular attention to education for peace, which according to him, starts from the family home. Janusz Tarnowski was in the first place a priest, tireless in spiritual leading. He supported also clergy and catechists by numerous studies and reflections connected with dilemmas of their professions

Abstract
Hiccup is a symptom resulting with uncontrolled contractions of the diaphragm and external intercostals muscles with inspiration and with simultaneous sudden closure of the glottis, that produces specific “hic” sound. Depending on the time of duration, hiccup can be classified as acute (up to 48h), chronic (48h to 1 month) and persistent (lasting longer than one month). The exact pathophysiology of this symptom still remains unknown, though it is well known, that short-term episodes of hiccup are mainly caused by oesophagus and stomach diseases (gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, gastro-oesophageal reflux) or alcohol consumption.
Other reasons of this phenomenon include the diseases with the stimulation of the vagus nerve or conditions with diaphragm irritation. It can be also psychogenic or resulting from central nervous system diseases.
Short term episodes of hiccup happen to every person and do not cause any concern. Chronic hiccups can lead to significant worsening of quality of life including fatigue, nutritional restrictions, dehydration, weight loss, insomnia, respiratory disorders, depression or even suicidal thoughts.
We present an interesting case with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in a 65-year-old smoker, who was hospitalized in our Department because of pneumonia, with persistent hiccup as an additional complaint considerably deteriorating his quality of life.

In the first section, "Biopics that could have been", the author presents films that were being prepared, but never finally made, including Ludwik Starski's legendary script, on which he worked from 1945. In the second section, "Two biopics that were made, and two other stories with the Old Doctor in the background", the author discusses two feature films that were made, in which Janusz Korczak was the main protagonist: Aleksander Ford's "Sie sind frei, Doktor Korczak" (AKA "The Martyr", 1974), and Andrzej Wajda's "Korczak" (1990), and two American films, in which he was a supporting character: Jon Avnet's "Uprising" (2001) and John Kent Harrison's "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler" (2009). In the third section Lubelski reviews documentaries on Korczak, and in the fourth film adaptations of his novels, starting with Wanda Jakubowska's "King Matt the First" (1958)

POSTHUMOUS REMINISCENCES ABOUT DR. JANUSZ LEHMANN
No full textDr. Janusz Lehmann (1924-2002) was a conservator of historical monuments and an expert on theory and praxis. He was also an outstanding organiser of scientific and social undertakings in numerous fields of conservation as well as an author and translator of numerous professional publications.
Participant and co-organiser of numerous specialist conferences on the conservation of historical monuments held both at home and in Italy, Spain, the United States, Germany, the Czech Republic, the former Soviet Union, Tunisia, India and Hungary.
Dr. Janusz Lehmann was a member of the International Institute of Conservation (IIC), the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) and an expert for the UNESCO commission dealing with the conservation of stone monuments. Up to his death he also fulfilled the function of the chairman of the Poznań Branch of the Society for Protection of Historical Monuments (TOnZ)
