The "Six Characters" of Giuseppe Fava's Delirio (1980)
Care lettrici & Cari lettori,
we are thrilled to present you with Volume 36 of PSA - The Journal oh the Pirandello Society of America. This year's issue features a striking cover image of a scene from A Green Vein of Madness, a theatrical adaptation of Alessio Arena's acclaimed 2020 book, "La vena verde". Similarly engaging with Pirandello's legacy, Pierlorenzo Randazzo's "The Six Characters of Giuseppe Fava's Delirio (1980)" offers a detailed comparative analysis of Fava's play "Delirio" and Luigi Pirandello's "Six Characters in Search of an Author" (1921). Randazzo explores how Fava reimagines Pirandello's work in a farcical light, employing this reinterpretation to highlight Pirandello's metatheatrical techniques, which serve as a metaphor for the crisis of human identity. While both plays address themes of lost identity, Delirio sets itself apart by depicting its characters as concrete, earthly beings, as opposed to the more abstract and conceptual characters found in Pirandello's original work

Abstract: The optimization of difference patterns of monopulse antennas is considered. The synthesis problem is recast as an optimization problem by defining a suitable cost function. In particular, in this paper, the cost function is based on constraints on the side-lobe levels. A subarray configuration is adopted and the excitations of the difference pattern are approximately determined. The optimization problem isefficiently solved by a differential evolution algorithm, which is able to contemporarily handle real and integer unknowns. Numerical results are reported concerning classical array configurations previously considered in the literature.

«Non so scrivere inglese, a momenti neppure italiano… datemi una “giobba” qualsiasi»: gli emigrati italiani nel teatro di Nino Randazzo
The paper examines the cultural, social and linguistic representation of Italians emigrated to Australia in the writing for the theatre of Nino Randazzo, a playwright of Aeolian origin, who emigrated to Melbourne in 1952, considered one of the most important and prolific authors in the context of the so-called “letteratura dell’emigrazione”, and more particularly the Italian-Australian literature in italian language. Of particular interest is the theme of cultural and social prejudices of Anglo-Australians towards people of Italian origin, labelled as ignorant, impossible to acculturate and to discipline, largely linked to criminal organizations, which mostly speak a mixed variety of Italian and English. Thus, in particular, in the comedy Il Sindaco d’Australia (1981), in which the stereotypical (but hilarious) image of the emigrant from the south of Italy, impulsive and ambitious, characterized on a linguistic level by the use of Italian-Australian terms; and in the comedy Victoria Market (1982), conceived by Randazzo as a protest against the tendency on the part of Anglo-Australians to build stereotypes towards Italian-Australians, in this case the one that Italian equals mafioso. Randazzo’s theatre, however, manages to distinguish itself from the works of the majority of first-generation Italian-Australian playwrights for its attempt to demystify such prejudices and clichés in an enjoyable way. It is in the choice of a popular tone of comedy, also achieved through the skilful mixing of more traditional Italian forms with Italian-Australian terms typical of the years in which the narrated events are set, that the specific aspects in this author lay.L'articolo prende in esame la rappresentazione culturale, sociale e linguistica degli italiani emigrati in Australia nella scrittura per il teatro di Nino Randazzo, drammaturgo di origine eoliana, emigrato a Melbourne nel 1952, considerato uno degli autori più importanti e prolifici nel contesto della cosiddetta “letteratura dell'emigrazione”, e più in particolare della letteratura italo-australiana in lingua italiana.
Land-Based Food Initiatives in Two Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the harvesting and dietary practices of two rural and remote Indigenous communities. The ethnographic methods of participant observations and semi-structured interviews availed an abundance of rich and detailed data that allowed for a clear understanding of the barriers these two communities face when accessing food. This is an articled-based thesis containing three parts. Part one is composed of a literature review that describes the barriers that have contributed to food insecurity problems in Indigenous communities. It finishes with a chapter dedicated to defining the postcolonial theoretical perspective and describing how and why it was employed during this research process. The postcolonial perspective was chosen to best understand the historical forces that caused food insecurity in Indigenous communities and justify my position as a non-indigenous researcher in the field of Indigenous health. The second part of the thesis is made up of two articles. Article one will describe the current situation of food access challenges and responses in Canada, more specifically in two rural and remote First Nations communities. The article illustrates how both First Nations are experiencing challenges obtaining healthy food from the market and from the land. The article describes what is involved in acquiring food in both communities, and the responses each community is taking to increase food access. The article concludes by pointing out how these initiatives are building more than just food capacity and why they deserve greater external support. The second article is focused solely in the community of Wapekeka, and is entitled The Cost of Local Food Procurement in One Northern Rural and Remote Indigenous Community. The purpose of the article is to provide a specific example of building local food capacity as strategy to address food insecurity. It documents the costs associated with traditional food procurement and compares these costs against the price of food available in the store. The final component of the thesis is the overall conclusion, highlighting the belief that the findings presented in this thesis will promote and emphasize the importance of land-based food initiatives as a way to foster positive health outcomes for all Indigenous peoples

Elementary teachers' knowledge and implementation of applied behavior analysis techniques
Teachers can effectively reduce students’ disruptive behaviors through the use of
evidence-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques; however, a review of the
literature indicates that teachers are not consistently implementing these strategies. This
study surveyed 203 elementary teachers (K - 5), from four elementary schools in two
New Jersey school districts, to assess their knowledge and frequency of use of 15 ABA
techniques, as well as the frequency with which various conditions acted as barriers to
their implementation of ABA strategies, the effectiveness and types of instructional
techniques used in their training when learning about ABA strategies, and the importance
of different activities/experiences when learning to use ABA techniques. Participants’
demographic characteristics were also examined in relation to the above-mentioned
factors. Results revealed that the majority of teachers perceived themselves as knowledgeable or very knowledgeable about each ABA strategy. Furthermore, ABA techniques reportedly employed the most frequently were all positive rather than
punitive. Most teachers indicated that a variety of activities/experiences were important
or very important in their attempts to learn to use ABA strategies, particularly
discussion/working with colleagues and professional development. Regarding
instructional techniques used in training, participants reported that observing one’s
mentor/cooperating teacher and practicing and receiving feedback were some of the most
effective when learning about ABA strategies. When implementing ABA techniques, few
teachers reported that any of the conditions were often or very often barriers, although
lack of feedback/guidance and a lack of knowledge/skill were rated as occurring most frequently. Analysis of demographic characteristics revealed that special educators perceived themselves to be more knowledgeable than general educators about ABA
techniques; females rated themselves as more knowledgeable than males; and teachers
with more years of experience tended to report being both more knowledgeable about and
also employing ABA strategies more often. Findings suggest that the training teachers
receive both in their teacher preparation programs and also after entering their profession
can positively influence their perceived knowledge and frequency of use of ABA
strategies. Future research can further explore specific aspects of teachers’ training, background, and/or professional experience that might enhance their knowledge and implementation of ABA techniques.Psy.DIncludes bibliographical referencesby Marissa E. Randazz
