"Poetic License": Constructing Literary Performing Arts Curriculum Within a High-Stakes Educational Environment
Thesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2013"Poetic License" Constructing Literary Performing Arts Curriculum Within a High-Stakes Educational Environment Nayeli Adorador-Knudsen Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor, Dr. Michael S. Knapp Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Literary Performing Arts (LPA) is an artistic writing strategy, based within traditions of hip-hop and urban youth culture, that infuses writing with performance technique as a way to critique and resist current societal structures while also developing a students' personal dialogue with their own experiences. Three high school sites within the same urban district were examined to see how LPA curriculum functioned within a high-stakes environment at both school and classroom levels. Qualitative findings indicated that LPA curriculum and its dissemination within each learning space was in fact influenced by this high-stakes environment through external school factors such as: curricular school-wide models, active support from school administration, teacher values, and student population

Potential Influences of Action Research on the Developing Identities and Practices of Teacher Leaders
Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2015Potential Influences of Action Research on Teacher Leaders Kjellaug E. Rowe Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor Michael S. Knapp Educational Leadership and Policy Studies This qualitative methods research study seeks to better understand how teacher leaders develop their identity and practices through an examination of their efforts undertaking action research in a mentored and supported cohort setting with ongoing, job-embedded support. Specifically, this study seeks to explore how engagement in action research may have helped promote the shift from teacher to teacher leader. As teacher leaders take on action research, their work may also serve to prompt shifts in identity and practice as they develop an inquiry stance as a way to consider and approach their work. This study employs case studies of six teacher leaders who conducted mentored action research, drawing upon their work at various point throughout the process, both while they were conducting their research and after. These case studies illuminated these teacher leaders’ learning and development. As such, this study explored the use of action research as a tool for personal and professional development, and its outcomes for teacher leaders

Calligrammitis Parris, Sundue, Li Bing Zhang, X. M. Zhou & Ralf Knapp 2023, gen. nov.
Calligrammitis Parris, Sundue, Li Bing Zhang, X.M.Zhou & Ralf Knapp, gen. nov. Type: C. beddomeana (Alderw.) Parris, Sundue, Li Bing Zhang, X.M.Zhou & Ralf Knapp ≡ Polypodium beddomeanum Alderw., Bull. Jard. Bot. Buitenzorg sér. 2, 28: 39. 1918 (Fig. 2). Etymology —Greek, calli = beautiful, and Grammitis, a genus of ferns in which both species were previously placed. Diagnosis — Calligrammitis differs from other genera of Grammitidoideae by the following combination of characters: rhizomes radial, rhizome scales absent, stipes present, fronds not articulated to rhizome, laminae simple, without sclerotic margin, sometimes slightly crenulate, setae present, branched hairs with setae as branches present, basally stellate hairs present, veins simple, 1-forked or pinnately branched, hydathodes sometimes present at vein endings on adaxial surface of lamina, sporangia glabrous. Species of Calligrammitis were placed in Radiogrammitis (Parris 2007) and / or Oreogrammitis (Knapp & Hsu 2017, Kuo et al. 2019). More recently Parris & Sundue (2020) synonymized Radiogrammitis with Oreogrammitis. Calligrammitis differs from similar species of Oreogrammitis that lack rhizome scales and sporangial setae by the presence of basally stellate hairs. It is closely related to Prosaptia, which also has branched hairs with setae as branches and lacks sporangial setae, but can be easily distinguished from it by having radial rhizomes without rhizome scales, and superficial sori on the abaxial surface of the lamina, while Prosaptia has dorsiventral rhizomes with stipes articulated to prominent phyllopodia and clathrate ciliate rhizome scales, with sori sunken in marginal pouches or in pits on the abaxial surface of the lamina or superficial on the abaxial surface of the lamina. Description —Lamina narrowly lanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate, or narrowly oblanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, texture membranous to coriaceous, setae usually of two different lengths; veins visible or not in transmitted light. Sori ± circular to broadly elliptic, superficial, one or more rows on each side of the midrib. Taxonomy — Calligrammitis contains two species in Taiwan Island, Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Sri Lanka (Parris et al. 2015, Kuo et al. 2019).Published as part of Yang, Jian-Jun, Parris, Barbara, Knapp, Ralf, Sundue, Michael, Zhang, Li-Bing & Zhou, Xin-Mao, 2023, Circumscription of the grammitid fern genus Oreogrammitis (Polypodiaceae) with the description of three new genera: Calligrammitis, Devolia, and Glabrigrammitis, pp. 28-36 in Phytotaxa 597 (1) on pages 30-31, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.597.1.4, http://zenodo.org/record/791877
Incorporating prediction and estimation risk in point-in-time credit portfolio models
In this paper we focus on the analysis of the effect of prediction and estimation risk on the loss distribution, risk measures and economic capital. When variables for the determination of probability of default and loss distribution have to be predicted because they are not available at the time the prediction is made, the prediction is prone to errors. The model parameters for the estimation of probability of default or asset correlation are not available, and usually have to be estimated using historical data. The incorporation of prediction and estimation risk generally leads to broader loss distributions and therefore to rising values of risk parameters such as Value at Risk or Expected Shortfall. The level of economic capital required may be strongly underestimated if prediction and estimation risk are ignored. --probability of default,PD,credit risk, default correlation, asset correlation, point in time, value at risk, estimation risk
