The rules of the game and the game of the rules: Differential subcultures in sport crimes

    No full text
Relation between sport and crime could be described in many ways: Sport could lead to criminal conducts, athlets could become victims, sport activities could be seen as a social tool to prevent crime, just to name a few. Nowadays, at least in Italy, hooliganism has been the most examined aspect of this topic, while little or no has been studied concerning the not so conventional kind of crimes nor the organized ones, especially doping and illegal football pools. Authors, who established a working group called: "Legaspo" (Sport Legality), examined different documents, such as some sentences and the papers concerning Italian inquieries called "Totonero" and "Last Bet"; also, some young athlets have been interviewed and asked to do some questioannaires. Authors, after all these analysis, employ theoretical acquisitions taken from subcultures and differential associations theories, on doping and illegal football pools phenomena, coining a new theory called differential subcultures. The rules of this new theory are shown below: 1. the most important thing is to win, at any price; 2. the most important thing is to win, even if this means behave dangerously for your health; 3. what could be called "ethic" is defined by people around you in that moment 4. earning money is more important than winning 5. as long as you earn money, it doesn't matter the group of people you decide to spend your time with. Results show that repressive actions alone can't be enough to prevent crime and, in addition, it is desirable a cultural and educational method to legality

The authors conducted research on the subject of ethical choices in the pandemic period (April 2020) on a sample of 1,009 people by administering a special online questionnaire (web interviews). At the time of survey 10% of this sample used to work in the health area. Starting from the analysis of these data and in the light of the reference literature and the recommendations of SIAARTI/SIMLA “Decisions for intensive care in case of disproportion between care needs and available resources during a COVID-19 pandemic”, the authors propose some thoughts on the subject of ethical dilemmas

    Mass Murder; Italy as USA?

    No full text
Mass murder is the act of murdering many people in the same place, typically simultaneously and it does not require a perverse behaviour. The actors of these crimes are characterized by negligence of being captured, by the fact that they act in a public place and often their motivation comes from revenge. Although there are differences between mass murder committed in the USA and the ones committed in Italy, this article tries to show the common factors that can be found between them. Through the analysis of three different cases we try to understand how particular psychological traits, frustrations, firearms availability and social isolation play a role, in order to increase prevention of these massacres and the identification of specific treatment programs

Incels: Between mass murders and terrorism?

    No full text
In recent years there has been a significant change in the implementation methods and ideological substrates of mass murders; a phenomenon that has affected both the United States and Europe. A specific movement stands out for its peculiarities: The “Incels” community, unknown to most and which has raised little interest in the academic world. This work aims at deepening the knowledge on this phenomenon, the underlying ideology and the personological characteristics of those who consider themselves “Involuntary Celibates”. Starting from the analysis of the literature on the subject, which is still rather scarce today, an attempt has been made to understand the criminogenesis and criminodynamics of these actions, reporting and commenting on case studies so far connected to the movement, analyzing the fundamental role played by social media and that of hypothetical preventive strategies
