AbstractThis paper presents a theorem on the growth rate of the orbit-counting sequences of a primitive oligomorphic group: if G is not a highly homogeneous group, then the growth rate for the sequence counting orbits onn -tuples of distinct elements is bounded below by cnn!, wherec≈ 1.172. The previously known lower bounds concerned all not highly transitive groups, including highly homogeneous groups which are known to have roughly factorial growth rate. This paper shows that highly homogeneous groups are the only groups with such a growth rate, while for all other primitive groups the growth rate is faster and the bound is improved by an exponential factor

    On anti-Novák cycle systems

This note is motivated by recent work by Feng et al. (2021) which studies Novák’s conjecture for Steiner Triple Systems and extends it to cyclic Steiner 2-designs, and more generally to cyclic 2-designs. Here we consider instead a generalization to cyclic -cycle systems: we show that in this setting the generalized conjecture is false for k>4 , and construct some families of counterexamples which arise

"The stipulatio of Slaves between ius civile and ius honorarium ". This paper examines legal texts, starting from the Digeste and the documents of the Campanian practices where slaves perform stipulationes. I am highlighting fields of application of these obligations, their purposes, and their effects. Reduzzi Merola Francesca. De quoi parle-t-on quand on parle d’esclavage volontaire à Rome ?

The long-denied fact that a free-born man might seek to become a slave really began to be of interest to legal scholars and Roman historians following the publication of the paper by Paul Veyne and Jacques Ramin. Why would one want to become a slave while one is free ? How does this passage from freedom to slavery take place ? How have ancient and modern legal scholars accounted for this presumably degrading change of status ? The author of the present paper surveys current hypotheses and suggests new avenues to understand a phenomenon the nature and magnitude of which justify a new approach. Reduzzi Merola Francesca.
