Gardner-Webb Counseling Center to Screen Eating Disorder Documentary “Someday Melissa”
In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers and prevalence of eating disorders, the Gardner-Webb counseling services department is screening the documentary “Someday Melissa” on Monday, April 2 at 7 p.m. in Blanton Auditorium, located inside Hamrick Hall. “Someday Melissa” is the story of Melissa Rose Avrin, the 19-year-old who died of a heart attack in 2009 after a five-year battle with bulimia. Gardner-Webb University to Host Author and Philanthropist Paul Leonard
Gardner-Webb University’s Center for Christian Ethics and Social Responsibility, in conjunction with Fireside Books and Gifts of Shelby, N.C., will host author and philanthropist Paul Leonard for a special lecture and book signing on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in Stewart Hall at the Tucker Student Center on the Gardner-Webb campus, and is free and open to the public. Gardner-Webb English Department Hosts Program with Award-Winning Author
Award-winning author Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle will be the guest speaker for the Darlene J. Gravett Visiting Writer Series on Oct. 2 at Gardner-Webb University. Hosted by the Department of English Language and Literature, Clapsaddle will spend time during the day sharing with creative writing and first-year composition students. The public is invited to hear Clapsaddle speak at 7 p.m. in Hamrick Hall’s Blanton Auditorium. Gardner-Webb University to Host Author Wiley Cash on April 16
The Gardner-Webb University Department of English Language and Literature will present author Wiley Cash as part of its annual Visiting Writer Series on April 16 at 7 p.m. The event will be held in Ritch Banquet Hall, located inside Dover Campus Center and is open to the public. Gardner-Webb Offers CrossFit to Students, Faculty and Staff
After becoming an officially licensed CrossFit affiliate last year, Gardner-Webb University is expanding its program this year. Recent renovations to Suttle Wellness Center have increased the space for CrossFit workouts, adding new flooring, equipment, rigs and weights. Gardner-Webb University CrossFit Offers Virtual and Outdoor Options
Because of Covid-19 physical distancing requirements, CrossFit Gardner-Webb University offers daily virtual workouts, as well as outdoor options. The alternative formats allow faculty, staff and students to maintain or increase their level of fitness. GWU CrossFit Coach Melissa Battista and Admissions Counselor Ezekiel Martin used the time to prepare for a CrossFit partner competition. New York Times best-selling author, Wiley Cash, will be at Gardner-Webb University on Feb. 18 as part of the Darlene J. Gravett Visiting Writer Series. In her book by the same title, she examines the lives and soul care practices of 10 significant men and women―Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Darrell Griffin, Renita Weems, Harold Carter, Jessica Ingram, Coretta Scott King, James Washington, and Howard Thurman.
