A New System for Choosing the Form and Size of Complete Denture Anterior Teeth
Introduction: In the absence of pre-extraction records, the choice of the size an form of anterior complete denture teeth can be extremely subjective. Several clinical and statistical parameters are usually used for choosing the correct size and form of the complete denture anterior teeth. Clinical Innovation: The technique consists of a system that allows the dentist to choose and, if necessary, easily change the dental mold during maxillomandibular recording session. The unique feature of the system is that six teeth of each mold are represented by veneers, which are connected to each other on the lingual surface by a fiber that allows each veneer some degree of movement. Discussion: This technique allows the three-dimensional verification of the patient’s esthetics and realistic phonetic test during the session of maxillomandibular records; if necessary, the dentist may easily replace the mold with a different one in form or size, without working the wax to move or replace a tooth

Hybrid prosthesis supported by natural teeth (overdenture) is widely used in clinical practice and should be executed whenever the clinical conditions suggest it. Through a critical review of the literature, the anatomical, functional, psychological and clinical advantages are emphasized. Among the first ones, the prophylaxis of residual anatomical components, due to the limitation of bone resorption, and the preservation of sensorial proprioception are relevant. Important advantages are also represented by a better crown-root ratio of residual teeth supporting overdenture, with the consequent improvement of the longitudinal prognosis of such teeth. The greater retention and stability of overdenture in comparison with complete denture greatly improve the masticatory efficacy. The psychological advantages resulting from the dental anchorage, which allows the patient to be more confident in social life, are also relevant. Finally, when the dental support is lost, converting overdenture into complete denture is simple and quick, and makes easier the longitudinal clinical maintenance of the denture

Irrigants in endodontics: A review
Aim. The purpose of this paper was to review different endodontic irrigants use in endodontics. Background. Many areas inside the canals are inaccessible to mechanical instrumentation, the presence of lateral and accessory canals makes root canal preparation even more difficult. The complete smear layer removal from the root canals depends consequently on both the irrigant solutions and the instrumentation phase. Review consults. Irrigants play a very important role in disinfecting the root canals thus the use of specific solutions has been performed in conjunction with mechanical instrumentation for many years. Combination of several irrigants can increase the capability to penetrate inside the tubules improving the final effect against resistant germs like Enterococcus faecalis that plays an important role in the failure of root canal treatment. Conclusion. The ideal irrigant solution should be microbiocidal, dissolve organic tissues and provide a mechanical flushing action without damaging the periradicular tissues in case of extrusion into the periodontium. Clinical significance. Future research on irrigants needs to focus on finding a single unique solutions that should have all those properties

Aim Acid etched surface implants determine high clinical success rates, but little
information is available about early loading in the posterior region of the
maxilla, area at risk of failure. The aim of this work is to present two case reports
of oral rehabilitation through acid etched surface implants (Osseotite, Implant
Innovations - 3i, West Palm Beach, FL) loaded two months after insertion in the
posterior maxilla. Materials and methods The success of Osseotite
implants was assessed 12 and 24 months after prosthetic loading according to
Albrektsson et al. criteria (1986). Results No clinical or radiographic signs of
implant failure were observed during the two years follow-up. Conclusions
The Osseotite implants placed in the posterior maxilla seemed to support a functional
loading applied two months after insertion
Candida pararugosa isolation from the oral cavity of an Italian denture wearer
Candida pararugosa was first isolated from human feces, but after the initial description no further recovery from humans has been reported. During a study on oral Candida colonization in denture wearers living in Palermo (Italy), we isolated C. pararugosa from a 61-year-old woman without signs of oral candidosis. This constitutes, to the authors' knowledge, the first isolation of C. pararugosa from the oral cavity. After six months, colonization by C. pararugosa persisted, suggesting that this species could be a component of the normal oral microbiota. The identification procedure we used could be useful in elucidating the epidemiology of C. pararugosa and for establishing its clinical significance
