No full textL’epistolario inedito di Nicola Andria, qui pubblicato per la prima volta da Melania Anna Duca, costituisce un tassello prezioso per la ricostruzione delle vicende del “filosofo di Partenope”. Attraverso un’accurata indagine storico-filologica, Duca, già autrice di un pregevole studio su Andria, approfondisce gli aspetti più innovativi e, al contempo, poco noti, del pensiero scientifico andriano. Dalle lettere a Canterzani, Haller e Spallanzani emergono, in questa prospettiva, alcuni assunti fondamentali della riflessione di Nicola Andria: dalla definizione del “medico-filosofo, ministro della natura”, alla considerazione dell’uomo come “macchina vivente”, fino al tentativo d’istituzione di una vera e propria scienza medica. No full textNel libro Il pensiero scientifico di Nicola Andria, Melania Anna Duca traccia il profilo di uno scienziato “europeo”, dimostrando come il medico di Massafra, ingiustamente dimenticato per oltre un secolo e mezzo, sia, in realtà, un importante protagonista del dibattito filosofico e scientifico svoltosi a Napoli tra Sette e Ottocento.
Grazie al ritrovamento di alcune lettere inedite, l’autrice mette in luce come Andria sia amico di Haller, Tissot, Bonnet, Crantz, Ferber, Zuccagni e altri insigni studiosi, coi quali intesse un proficuo scambio epistolare. Di grande interesse è, in particolare, il rapporto che il Massafrese ha con il noto scienziato Spallanzani.
Nel corso del testo, attraverso l’analisi di quattro delle maggiori opere di Andria, ovvero, Elementi di chimica filosofica, Elementi di medicina teoretica, Istituzioni di Medicina Pratica, Osservazioni generali sulla teoria della vita, Duca si sofferma sul ruolo che, nell’indagine scientifica, il medico di Massafra assegna alla filosofia. Essa, infatti, è, per Andria, guida imprescindibile per ogni scienziato e medico che si riconosca «ministro della Natura» e, a fortiori, «ministro» dell’umanità
