Admissibility and consistency for multiple comparison problems with dependent variables
In response to the need of dealing with high dimensional data, new multiple testing procedures (MTPs) based on p-values were developed to improve average power while controlling error rates at the same time. Although MTPs are well accepted and practiced in many disciplines, little attention has been put on a decision theory approach to evaluate MTPs. In a series of papers, Cohen and Sackrowitz (2005a,2005b,2007,2008} laid out the foundation to assess MTPs by studying both type I and type II errors. Here we extend that work and focus on some properties, such as admissibility, p-value monotonicity and consistency, to assess frequently used and new MTPs. Applications include all-pairwise comparisons in anova models and change point problems. In addition, the development of admissible procedures for a matrix order problem is presented.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Kuo-mei Che
Deux versions des Mémoires de Chiang Ching-kuo, fils de Chiang Kai-shek, de son séjour en Union Soviétique
The subject of this work is the presentation of two contradictory versions of memoirs of Chiang Ching-kuo, son of Chiang Kai-shek, the president of the Republic of China’s until 1975, describing his twelve years’ stay in Soviet Union between 1925 and 1937. After his return to China, Chiang Ching-kuo assisted his father in his autocratic conduct of Chinese politics directed against Mao’s communists, at first in continental China and then in Taiwan. The first memoirs, published in 1947, glorify communist achievements in the Soviet Union during Chiang Ching-kuo stay there, but the second memoirs, on the contrary, vilify the communists and their deceitful, in the opinion of its author, ideology.
This work presents the French translation of the first memoirs, never yet fully translated into any European language, and points out the contradictions, omissions and distortions of reality in both of them. It tries to explain reasons lying behind those inconsistencies.</p

The concept of peace in the Tao Te Ching
This thesis represents a first attempt to analyze Lao Tzu's main method of resolving the social and political problems in Ch'un Ch'iu and Warring States Periods. Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, suggested many solutions that could bring an end to the conflicts and to the ending of the disunity of China. Examples of these include the reform or abolishment of some ancient Chinese institutions as well as new principles for the enhancement and preservation of life. All these ideas were to become crystallised in Tao Te Ch'ing, which became an important religious text. In particular, the aspect of Lao Tzu's methods for solving the social and political problems of China in the Warring States Period needs more attention. In each chapter of the Tao Te Ch'ing there was a main emphasis on peace as the main method of developing social cohesion and as a cure to all fundamental human problems. Therefore, Lao Tzu's ideas about peace and his methods of solving the problems of the Warring States period are significant and from the main focus of the thesis
