Emmett N. McCall papers, MSS.0943
Abstract: Financial records and ledgers of McCall's Dixonville Racket Store, a general store in the Brewton, Escambia County, Alabama, area. Also includes correspondence, Mormon church records, mortgage deeds, and cotton acreage allotments.Scope and Content Note: E.N. McCall lived most of his life just south of Brewton, Escambia County, Alabama, near the Florida-Alabama state line. He operated a country store there, the Dixonville Racket Company. A major part of this collection is made up of the transaction records for this business, including bills and receipts, freight and shipping bills, tax forms and miscellaneous papers and tax receipts.Among the correspondence are papers relating to E.N. McCall's role as a priest in the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. These cover such church-related matters as business meetings, tithes, ministerial duties, fundraising, etc. There is also some correspondence dealing with family and personal matters (e.g., getting the children into schools, etc.). The collection also contains material dealing specifically with McCall's agricultural interests, the bulk of which concerns the acreage allotments for cotton during the New Deal period, inlcuding government forms, applications, class and weight bale inventories, option contracts, etc. The collection also has numerous mortgage deeds (also called chattel mortgages) and warranty deeds of business enterprises of E.N. McCall and others. These comprise legal forms from Escambia County, Alabama, and Santa Rosa County, Florida. (The two sons of E.N. McCall became residents of Florida: Mahlon being county judge of Santa Rosa County, and Dehryl a county extension agent in Green Cove Springs.)A few miscellaneous pamphlets and a collection of receipt books (mostly of monies received by the church) finish off the McCall collection.Biographical/Historical Note

Improved spectroscopy of molecular ions in the mid-infrared with up-conversion detection
"Heterodyne detection, velocity modulation, and cavity enhancement are useful tools for observing rovibrational transitions of important molecular ions.\footnote{K.N. Crabtree, J.N. Hodges, B.M. Siller, A.J. Perry, J.E. Kelly, P.A. Jenkins II, and B.J. McCall, Chem. Phys. Lett. 551 (2012) 1-6.} We have utilized these methods to investigate a number of molecular ions, such as H, CH, HeH, and OH.\footnote{A.J. Perry, J.N. Hodges, C.R. Markus, G.S. Kocheril, and B.J. McCall, J. Mol. Spec. 317 (2015) 71-73.}\footnote{J.N. Hodges, A.J. Perry, P.A. Jenkins II, B.M. Siller, and B.J. McCall, J. Chem. Phys. 139 (2013) 164291.}\footnote{A.J. Perry, J.N. Hodges, C.R. J. 817 (2016) 138.} In the past, parasitic etalons and the lack of fast and sensitive detectors in the mid-infrared have limited the number of transitions we could measure with MHz-level precision. Recently, we have significantly reduced the amplitude of unwanted interference fringes with a Brewster-plate spoiler. We have also developed a detection scheme which up-converts the mid-infrared light with difference frequency generation which allows the use of a faster and more sensitive avalanche photodetector. The higher detection bandwidth allows for optimized heterodyne detection at higher modulation frequencies. The overall gain in signal-to-noise from both improvements will enable extensive high-precision line lists of molecular ions and searches for previously unobserved transitions."Made available in DSpace on 2017-01-26T21:38:42Z (GMT). Notes on the Geology of the McCall Valley Area
Describes mainly the glacial geology of this V-shaped valley, approx. 10 km long and, 800 m wide, cut by McCall Glacier (69 20 N, 144 15 W) and Jago River valley in northern Alaska. The bedrock consists of north-dippping sediments of Upper Mississippian Lisburne limestone and the Permian Sadlerochit formation which abut against a granite batholith. Characteristic deposits of five glacial advances were examined by the author during the McCall Glacier Project in 1957-58, and their sequence correlated with that of the central Brooks Range. Beginning with the earliest, they correspond to the Anaktuvuk or Sagavanirktok, Itkillik, Echooka, Alapah Mountain and Fan Mountain glaciations. Some patterned ground features are described; also an aufeis field from which water was issuing in April, far in advance of the ablation season

ALEXANDER McCALL SMITH IN LITERARNI LIKI V NJEGOVIH DETEKTIVSKIH ROMANIH
Alexander McCall Smith\u27s novels are gaining more and more readers in Slovenia as well as around the worldthe most popular of his works is The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, which currently consists of 13 books.
For this thesis I wanted to find out what is the main appeal of the series and what are the reasons behind its popularity.
Although the two most important characters in the novels are detectives and the series revolves around different types of crime and their solving, the novels are not typical detective fiction. They do not feature any murder cases, and the two detectives deal only with everyday problems, such as theft, fraud, adultery, and searching for missing people. Mma Ramotswe, the protagonist, is a private detective who solves crime with humour, intuition, and without any detective knowledge.
The novels take place in the Southern African country of Botswanatherefore, the works feature appealing descriptions of Botswana’s scenery and customs but do not deal extensively with Botswana’s biggest problem: AIDS. Therefore they do not provide the reader with a completely accurate description of the country.
The literary characters are well-madean important characteristic of this series is that characters are shown as good people – even Mma Ramotswe, when solving cases, mostly relies on human kindness and consciousness that the right thing has to be done. The author does not show the characters only as good people, but as human beings with bad and good sides.
Literarni liki so dobro izdelani.
Theatre Philosophicum: Thinking Literature and Politics with Walter Benjamin
Oscar Guardiola-Rivera’s essay “Theatrum Philosophicum: Thinking Literature and Politics with Walter Benjamin” begins with Benjamin’s encounter with the work of Baudelaire, but rather than seeing this encounter as an opportunity to rethink the relationship between the work of Benjamin and Adorno, his essay offers a reading that shows how Benjamin rethinks utopia and the metaphorical transformation of politics and law in terms of uchrony: a present in which something happens to disrupt the standard routine of time passing. Guardiola-Rivera’s essay employs Baudelaire as a way to think against the standardisation of capitalism's law and empire and thereby decolonise and renew the critical impulse present in the Frankfurt School thinkers in a new idiom
Health Hazard Evaluation Report: HETA-81-097-1021: McCall Publishing Company; New York City, New York
Environmental air samples were analyzed for contaminants at the McCall Publishing Company (SIC-2721) in New York City, on December 30, 1980. An unidentified individual requested the evaluation on behalf of approximately forty workers who complained of eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea, and a metallic taste which usually were concurrent with a perceived odor of diesel like fuel. No contaminants were detected upon gas chromatographic and mass spectrophotometric analysis of the samples. The author notes that smoke from heating fires used by nearby construction workers may have been the source of the contamination in the offices
