    AdS amplitudes as CFT correlators

    No full text
We show that AdS amplitudes are CFT correlators to all orders in the loop expansion by showing that they obey the conformal Ward identities. In particular, we provide explicit formulas for the constants and functions of cross-ratios that determine the CFT correlators in terms of bulk data

Bulk renormalization and the AdS/CFT correspondence

    No full text
We develop a systematic renormalization procedure for QFT in anti-de Sitter spacetime. UV infinities are regulated using a geodesic point-splitting method, which respects AdS isometries, while IR infinities are regulated by cutting off the radial direction (as in holographic renormalization). The renormalized theory is defined by introducing ZZ factors for all parameters in the Lagrangian and the boundary conditions of bulk fields (sources of dual operators), and a boundary counterterm action, SctS_{\rm ct}, such that the limit of removing the UV and IR regulators exists. The results are in general scheme dependent (mirroring the analogous result in flat space) and require renormalization conditions. These may be provided by the dual CFT (or by string theory in AdS). Our analysis amounts also to a first principles derivation of the Feynman rules regarding Witten diagrams. The presence and treatment of IR divergences is essential for correctly accounting for anomalous dimensions of dual operators. We apply the method to scalar Φ4\Phi^4 theory and obtain the renormalized 2-point function of the dual operator to 2-loops, and the renormalized 4-point function to 1-loop order, for operators of any dimension Δ\Delta and bulk spacetime dimension up to d+1=7d+1=7.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure; v2: Comments and references added. Scale invariant hairy black holes

    No full text
Scalar fields coupled to three-dimensional gravity are considered. We uncover a scaling symmetry present in the black hole reduced action, and use it to prove a Smarr formula valid for any potential. We also prove that nonrotating hairy black holes exists only for positive total energy. The extension to higher dimensions is also considered

Remarks on resonant scalars in the AdS/CFT correspondence

    No full text
The special properties of scalars having a mass such that the two possible dimensions of the dual scalar respect the unitarity and the Breitenlohner- Freedman bounds and their ratio is integral ("resonant scalars") are studied in the AdS/CFT correspondence. The role of logarithmic branches in the gravity theory is related to the existence of a trace anomaly and to a marginal deformation in the Conformal Field Theory. The existence of asymptotic charges for the conformal group in the gravity theory is interpreted in terms of the properties of the corresponding CFT

    Anti-de Sitter-CFT correspondence in three-dimensional supergravity

    No full text
Anti–de Sitter supergravity models are considered in three dimensions. Precise asymptotic conditions involving a chiral projection are given on the Rarita-Schwinger fields. Together with the known boundary conditions on the bosonic fields, these ensure that the asymptotic symmetry algebra is the superconformal algebra. The classical central charge is computed and found to be equal to the one of pure gravity. It is also indicated that the asymptotic degrees of freedom are described by 2D “induced supergravity” and that the boundary conditions “transmute” the non-vanishing components of the WZW supercurrent into the supercharges.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

N=2 supergravity in three dimensions and its Godel supersymmetric background

    No full text
The four-dimensional Godel spacetime is known to have the structure M(3)x. It is also known that the three-dimensional factor M-3 is an exact solution of three-dimensional gravity coupled to a Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. We build in this paper a N=2 supergravity extension for this action and prove that the Godel background preserves half of all supersymmetries

Holographic currents in first order gravity and finite Fefferman-Graham expansions

    No full text
We study the holographic currents associated to Chern-Simons theories. We start with an example in three dimensions and find the holographic representations of vector and chiral currents reproducing the correct expression for the chiral anomaly. In five dimensions, Chern-Simons theory for AdS group describes first order gravity and we show that there exists a gauge fixing leading to a finite Fefferman-Graham expansion. We derive the corresponding holographic currents, namely, the stress tensor and spin current which couple to the metric and torsional degrees of freedom at the boundary, respectively. We obtain the correct Ward identities for these currents by looking at the bulk constraint equations
