Comparison of AI Tools that address Social Determinants of Health suggested to Reduce Maternal Mortality: A Systematic Review

No full text
Maternal mortality remains a critical public health issue, disproportionately affecting underserved, low-income urban populations where systemic inequities exacerbate health disparities. The purpose of this study is two-fold; (1) conduct a systematic review of relevant literature on AI-powered digital healthcare tools aimed at improving maternal health outcomes, with a particular focus on how they integrate social determinants of health (SDOH) and (2) review and compare AI tools that incorporate key SDOH factors—such as transportation access, food security, and housing stability, to name a few—to assess their effectiveness in reducing maternal mortality. This review, based on the analysis of 48 studies and 51 reports, examines AI\u27s ability to address barriers to equitable care through tools such as predictive analytics, food delivery, and transport. These innovations demonstrate improvements in maternal outcomes by enhancing accessibility, precision, and care coordination. However, findings reveal substantial gaps in integrating multiple SDOH within AI frameworks, which limits their holistic impact on maternal health. Policy implications stress the need to prioritize the development of comprehensive, multi-SDOH AI solutions to reduce maternal mortality and advance health equity. This research underscores the urgency of deploying cost-effective, scalable AI tools tailored to the unique challenges of underserved populations, thereby fostering equitable and improved maternal healthcare outcomes

Thesis (Ph.D.)--Michigan State University. History - Doctor of Philosophy, 2025“An Outstanding Teacher, Civic Leader, and Author”: The Education-Activism of Jane Dabney Shackelford is the first book-length study of the Early Black History Movement through the life and times of schoolteacher, education-activist, and author Jane Dabney Shackelford (1895-1979). Shackelford, a native of Terre Haute, Indiana, published one of the major first Black history textbooks for schoolchildren, lead Negro History Week campaigns in Indiana, was lauded nationally for her innovative anti-racist teaching, and recognized internationally for her writing. This dissertation excavates the worldviews, pedagogies, and activism of community-centered Black women educators and draws from the wealth of archival resources they left us—including Shackelford’s personal papers housed in Terre Haute, archives in Indianapolis, Bloomington, and New York, and digitized repositories such as the Hoosier State Chronicles collections, Journal of Negro History, Negro History Bulletin, and Harvard Library Colored Teachers Associations’ “Black Teacher Archive.”Description based on online resource. Teacher perceptions of the esol sheltered delivery model for grades 9-12 in a metro Atlanta school district, 2017

It was the goal of this study to examine teacher perceptions of the effectiveness of the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Sheltered program model for 9th to 12th grade students as it relates to passing scores on the Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State (ACCESS) for English Language Learners Test. This study also measured teacher perceptions of the ESOL Sheltered Program as it relates to academic improvement. The research focused on the possible relationships that may exist between ACCESS scores and ESOL teacher demographics, ESOL teacher training, ESOL teacher attitudes, ESOL teacher challenges, ESOL teacher efficacy in the use of general strategies, and ESOL teacher efficacy in the use of specific verbal and nonverbal strategies. The research design required the use of the correlation, ANOVA, and regression statistical models to test the research questions. The Cronbach Alpha statistical model was used to test the survey for reliability while item-to-scale correlations were used to the test the survey for construct validity. The researcher found that there was a significant relationship between student performance as measured by ACCESS scores and the independent variable, School Culture for ESOL students. The dependent variableeffectivenessrevealed significant relationships with teacher attitudes, school culture for ESOL students, and teachers self-efficacy with the use of specific verbal strategies literacy, vocabulary, and questioning. Recommendations were suggested for policy makers, district educational leaders, school educational leaders, ESOL teachers, and future researchers. KEY TERMS: Teacher Perceptions of ESOL Sheltered 9-12 Metro Atlanta, Bilingual, Multilingual, and Multicultural Education, Educational Administration and Supervision, Educational Leadership, Secondary Educatio

A qualitative study of nontraditional African American female students' perceptions of the factors that contribute to their high attrition rate in a metropolitan Atlanta two-year college., 2008

No full text
This study examined 10 nontraditional women at a small two-year institution. The study illuminated the challenges that these women faced as they matriculated and explored personal, professional, academic, institutional, financial resource, peer relationship, and professor relationship factors that they perceive could and has affected their attrition rates. The findings emerged from a host of dominant themes that were generalized at the inception of the study. The participants mostly provided a clear understanding of their perceptions relative to the themes. Therefore, the participants' responses provide an understanding of the relationships that the themes do or do not have to the participants' contribution to the studied institution's attrition rates. 1 The implications drew upon the research to bring forth a cause and effect understanding of the findings that if heeded could assist in decreasing the attrition rates for African-American female students. The recommendations were brought forth in an effort to provide a guiding post for future practices, policies, and research relative to understanding and adhering to the needs of nontraditional African-American female students

This document was delivered over the internet. The purpose of Solstice is to promote interaction between geography and mathematics. Articles in which elements of one discipline are used to shed light on the other are particularly sought. Also welcome, are original contributions that are purely geographical or purely mathematical. These may be prefaced (by editor or author) with commentary suggesting directions that might lead toward the desired interaction. Contributed articles will be refereed by geographers and/or mathematicians. Invited articles will be screened by suitable members of the editorial board. IMaGe is open to having authors suggest, and furnish material for, new regular features.Peer
