Una memoria apuleiana in Sidonio Apollinare: tra stile epistolare e modelli retorici

    No full text
In the Letter 9, 2 Sidonius Apollinaris declines Euphronius’ request to compose a work of biblical exegesis; even though it is short, the epistle has a high degree of rhetorical elaboration. The paper focuses the recusatio’s topics, particularly the one in which Sidonius compares himself with the preceding exegetes (Origenes, Hieronimus, Augustinus). The author uses two images for comparison: the second one presents the motif of bird singing and shows evidence of the influence of a passage of the Apuleius’ Florida

Magnitudo imperii. Nota sull’incipit dell’opera storiografica di Floro

    No full text

Laser Systems and Networks with Organic Nanowires and Nanofibers

    No full text
The potentialities of miniaturized laser sources are still far from being fully developed. Unprecedented opportunities are generated in this field by organic nanowires and nanofibers, which can be used as building blocks of micro- and nanolasers in which they combine optical gain, waveguiding, and very high versatility to create nanophotonic networks. The progress in laser devices and network architectures based on optically pumped organic light-emitting nanowires and nanofibers is here presented, with emphasis on developed active materials, fabrication technologies, lasing mechanisms, and cavity geometries, and on achieved device performance in terms of spectral tunability, excitation threshold, and resonator quality factors. Recent examples of optical coupling of different miniaturized lasers, of their application in optical sensing, and of network lasers are presented. Future directions for research are also outlined, which include the exploration of new classes of active organic or hybrid materials within nanowires, the more in-depth characterization of the fundamental properties of these lasers, and the use of topologically defined organic nanophotonics in network science, computing, and diagnostics

This paper concerns the literary fortune and the semantic evolution of the iunctura “mens saucia” from its first appearance in the Lucretius’ poem (4, 1048) to the Christian authors

Una celebrazione di Napoli e dei suoi sovrani nella compagine di un canzoniere di Giovanni Pontano: l'ode VI della Lyra

The essay focuses on a poem of Pontano's Lyra. It presents the complex editorial genesis of Lyra and relations wint other works of Pontano; then shifts the focus about Lyra VI and analyzes it under the rhetorical aspect of Laus urbis, highlighting the originality compared to the classic precepts, but also defining its role in building the Myth of Naples. The dating of poem in the age following the recapture of Otranto by Aragonese army also allows to grasp the ideological aspects related to the celebration of Alfonso duke of Calabria, the leader who led the campaign against Turks. The comparison with Literature developed near the historical event (especially wint Marco Probo da Sulmona's Triumphus Hydruntinus, Giovanni Albino Lucano's De bello Hydruntino, and Pontano's De fortitudine) allows to outline the propaganda in favor of the Prince that are renewed in some verses of Lyra VI (especially vv. 18-19)

Ipsa sibi obstat magnitudo rerumque diversitas aciem intentionis abrumpit (Flor. 1,3): una riconsiderazione

In the preface of his work Floro explains his historiographical method because it is important for him that the reader follows the events without distractions and adds: Ipsa sibi obstat magnitudo rerumque diversitas aciem intentionis abrumpit. In Latin acies indicates both the depths of the sight and what lines up in front of you (hence formation, host). Thus, Floro’s sentence can be explained considering the two meanings and attributing a dynamic sense to the process of reading and comprehension of historiography.
