    Family Business Innovation And Growth: A Csv Driven Perspective

    The paper addresses the role of familiness as a strategic determinant to enhance family businesses (FBs) capability in boosting business innovation and value creation processes. More specifically, the paper presents a FBs’ growth and innovation interpretative model based on distinctive familiness generated by the specific family-business dynamic balance processes and enhancing corporate shared value processes. The paper is articulated into three parts: the first one briefly presents the key dimensions of FBs in terms of ownership, management and familiness; the second part deepens the role of familiness as strategic determinant of FBs’ success and shared value creation. The last part reports the main evidences from the case study; the proposed research frame is in fact confirmed and enriched by the analysis of a case study referred to an Italian small FB working in the ICT sector, named NRGSYS

    A comparison of slope estimation methods

    The study evaluates widely used slope estimation algorithms with the aim of determining similarities or differences between results obtained by each, the accuracy of methods in modelling actual slope, and the suitability of these methods for site-specific and non-site specific applications. The data used in the study comprise of 24 artificial surfaces generated from mathematical equations and a natural surface represented by a USGS Digital Elevation Model of the Salem Quadrangle, Virginia. The concept of using artificial surfaces was to enable determination of accuracy without the requirement for field observations. The gradient calculated from partial derivatives of the equations was used to compare results from different methods. The natural surface was used to validate the findings of the study on artificial surfaces. The results were then statistically evaluated using ANOVA and regression analysis. It was found that the methods could be used interchangeably for non-site-specific applications while for site-specific applications the differences could be very significant.Master of Scienc

    Deferral pattern in voluntary blood donors on basis of low hemoglobin and effect of application of digital hemoglobinometer on this pattern

    Background: One of the responsibilities of blood center is to provide safety to blood donors. It is mandatory to screen a blood donor for hemoglobin (Hb) or hematocrit which should not be less than 12.5 g/dl or 38% Hct. Most commonly applied method for hemoglobin estimation is copper sulphate method, but this method has chances of false acceptance as well as false deferral. In order to avoid this chance of error, digital hemoglobinometer is used. This study was planned to analyze effect of application of digital hemoglobinometer for detection of Hb on donors, who are deferred by copper sulphate method. Materials and Methods: Total 35,339 voluntary non renumareted altruistic donors were included in this study between the periods of September 2005 to July 2006. Total deferred donors were 8622 (24.39%) and donors deferred due to hemoglobin by copper sulphate method were 4391 (50.92%). Digital hemoglobinometer was applied on 3163 deferred donors (72.03%). Results of digital hemoglobinometer were validated by known controls. Result: Digital hemoglobinometer was applied on 3163 donors who were deferred by copper sulphate method. Out of this, donors accepted by digital hemoglobinometer were 1196 (37.01%). Total repeat donors were 629 (52.50%) and first time were 567 (47.40%). Male donors were 891 (74.44%) and females were 305 (25.50%). Donors deferred with digital hemoglobinometer were 2135, out of them 1097 (51.14%) were repeat, 1038 (48.38%) were first time, 1349 (60.79%) were male, 786 (34.47%) donors were female donors. Range of hemoglobin in deferred donors was 7.0 to 12.4 and in accepted donors 12.5 to 16.4. Conclusion: By the application of digital hemoglobinometer 37.81% donors were found hemoglobin >12.5 which were deferred with copper sulphate method and unnecessary deferral of donors can be reduced to a great extent. In country like India, where blood supply is always less than the requirement, this new technique may be helpful to increase donor population but cost benefit ratio should be analyzed

    Anti-bacterial, Anti-oxidant and other Phytochemical Properties of Datura innoxia leaves

    To investigate the phytochemicals present in the leaves of Datura innoxia and to assess its antioxidant and antibacterial properties in different organic solvents, leaf extracts were exposed to different standardized techniques. Folin–Ciocalteu method and Aluminium chloride method proved that the ethanolic extract has maximum phenolic content (72.35± 0.52 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid content (29.21± 1.25 mg EQ/g) respectively. The highest DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC50 value 91.398 µg/ml also was in the ethanolic extract as compared to methanol, hexane and chloroform extracts. Free radical scavenging and antioxidant property of extracts were observed in the sequence of ethanol>methanol>hexane>chloroform. There was a strong correlation between antioxidant activity with total phenolic (DPPH, R2 = 0.41; PPM, R2 = 0.25) and total flavonoid contents (DPPH, R2 = 0.39; PPM, R2=0.23). Ethanolic and methanolic extracts showed antibacterial potential against the tested pathogenic strains; Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with a zone of inhibition ranging between 16± 0.9 to 27.5±0.8 mm. This study has proved that ethanolic leaf extract of D. innoxia showed bacterial inhibition and antioxidant activities and this herb can be assessed as a potential therapeutic species

    455-456The absorbance of vanadium(V) complex of schiff's base derived from 2-aminopyridine and naphthalenel- carbaldehyde after prelintinary adsorption of polyurethane foam has been studied. It is found that Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range 1085 mg of vanadium(V) in 10 ml chloroform. Molar absorptivity and sensitivity are calculated to be 6.6 x 104 1 mol-1 cm-1 and 0.061 mg cm-2 of V(V) respectively at 495 nm. The effects of pH, reagent concentration, absorbent, diverse metal ions on photometric determination of vanadium have been studied.
