Reminded by the instruments David Tudor's music

    No full text
'Reminded by the Instruments' offers an in-depth look at the work of post-war avant-garde pianist and composer David Tudor. Examining not only Tudor's pioneering work as a composer-performer but also his homemade modular instruments that radically altered electronic music, author You Nakai illuminates our understanding of the means of sound production in experimental musi

A new Hoek-Brown-Matsuoka-Nakai failure criterion for rocks

    No full text
Publisher Copyright: © 2023 The Author(s)In the current paper, we propose a new three-dimensional strength criterion for rocks expressed in terms of the first principal stress invariant, I1, and the second and third invariants of the deviatoric stress tensor, J2 and J3. The design of this constitutive model conjugates the characteristics of two of the most well-known and widely used criteria in geotechnical engineering: Hoek-Brown and Matsuoka-Nakai. Its material parameters can be calibrated based on conventional axisymmetric compression and extension tests. Experimental polyaxial test data from a dozen different rock types were used to validate the current criterion.publishersversionpublishe

An asymmetric Myers-Nakai theorem for non-reversible Finsler manifolds

    No full text
In this work we provide a generalization of the celebrated Myers-Nakai Theorem for Riemannian manifolds to the framework of non-reversible Finsler manifolds, based on the ideas used in a previous generalization for reversible Finsler manifolds proved in \cite{GJR-13}. In the reversible (i.e. metric) case, the function space used to characterize Finsler isometries is the normed algebra Cb1(M)C^1_b(M), of bounded and C1C^1-smooth real valued functions with bounded derivative on a Finsler manifold MM, endowed with its natural norm. This function space had to be adapted in order for it to reflect the quasi-metric structure of non-reversible Finsler manifolds, resulting in a partial loss of the normed space structure. In order to achieve the desired result, we define new algebraic/quasi-metric structures to model the behavior of the aforementioned function space. The construction is based on the cone of smooth semi-Lipschitz functions.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2002.02647 by other author
