März 2017 mit 100 % der Delegiertenstimmen zum Parteivorsitzenden und Kanzlerkandidaten gewählt wurde und der „Schulz-Zug“ damit richtig Fahrt aufnahm, hätte sich wohl niemand vorstellen können, dass dieser Zug Martin Schulz binnen Jahresfrist aufs politische Abstellgleis führen würde. In der Tat dürften Tiefe und Geschwindigkeit des politischen Falls selbst für sozialdemokratische Verhältnisse beispiellos sein. Betrachtet man Sigmar Gabriels Ankündigung vom 24. Januar 2017, zugunsten Schulz’ auf Parteivorsitz und Kanzlerkandidatur verzichten zu wollen, als Ausgangspunkt der Entwicklung und Martin Schulz’ Erklärung vom 9. Februar 2018, doch nicht als Außenmister ins Kabinett Merkel IV eintreten zu wollen, als ihren Schlusspunkt, so dauerte es gerade 382 Tage, bis sich Martin Schulz in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung vom Heilsbringer der Sozialdemokratie zu einem Paria der bundesdeutschen Politik gewandelt hatte
Molecular expression associated with vibrissa follicle development and differentiation
No full textThe hair follicle is a complex mini-organ formed as a result of epithelial mesenchymal interactions, provided by three different stem cell sources: epithelial, neural crest and mesenchymal. Hair follicle morphogenesis is directed by a distinct set of molecular signals which are unique to each stage of development. These interactions continue into the adult cycle, represented by periods of rapid growth (anagen), apoptosis driven regression (catagen), a period of relative quiescence (telogen) and shedding of the club hair (exogen). Many of the molecules involved have been elucidated such as Wnts, Bmps, Fgfs, TGF-ßs and Shh amongst others. However, the nature of their regulation and effect on gene expression is still unclear. Id proteins are emerging as powerful players in the transcriptional control of many fundamental biological processes, such as the cell cycle, proliferation and differentiation, apoptosis and lineage commitment. As a result, the expression patterns of Id2 and Ids were investigated by immunocytochemistry in developing and adult vibrissae. Wistar rats aged E14toP4 were used to cover all stages of vibrissae development (stages 0-6+) and 3-6 month old rats for the adult stages. This thesis reports that high Id2 expression was seen in specialised neuroendocrine cells (Merkel cells) of the hair follicle and basal epidermis, confirmed by co-expression of the Merkel cell marker, cytokeratin-20. This post-mitotic Id2 expression continued through postnatal ages and into the adult follicle. Staining with Id3 was characterised by cytoplasmic, basally polarised expression in the epithelia of stage 1-4 follicles. After this stage, expression switched to being nuclear with high levels in many different cell types including the dermal papilla, dermal sheath and outer root sheath, ш and Id3 expression was also investigated in retinole acid induced differentiation of E13.5 and E14 mystacial pads, studying the glandular morphogenesis of vibrissae and the effect on Id protein expression. Ш and Id3 immunoreactivity was cytoplasmic and polarised but no evidence of nuclear staining was seen.Id2 and ИЗ expression in developing vibrissae is reported here for the first time, describing the profiles of these proteins during hair follicle development and differentiation. These findings highlight an important cytoplasmic role for Id proteins in development and may have implications for reciprocal epithelial- mesenchymal interactions, pattern formation and stem cells in the hair follicle

Der Verfasser nennt in diesem inhaltsreichen Brief zahlreiche Namen und hält nicht nur die Verbindung mit Merkel, die aus dessen erstem Aufenthalt in Weimar resultierte, aufrecht, sondern gibt ihm weitere Hinweise und Empfehlung für seinen weiteren Aufenthalt in Dänemark.
So rät er zur Übersetzung dreier Romane aus dem Englischen, darunter Jane Wests „A gossip's story“ (London 1796). Ferner bittet der Verfasser Merkel um Gefälligkeiten: Er solle eine Zahl gelehrter Personen in Kopenhagen aufsuchen und für ihn z.B. die Zusendung alter Münzen arrangieren. Auch Merkels Schrift „Die Letten“ wird angesprochen, ebenso wie sein Aufsatz über die Religion und Poesie der Letten in „Der neue teutsche Merkur“ (1797). Der Brief illustriert einerseits das weit verzweigte Netzwerk, über das Böttiger verfügte, sowie dessen Bedeutung für die Knüpfung neuer Bekanntschaften und pragmatisch gestalteter sozialen Kommunikation. Aus dem Brief geht zudem hervor, dass Böttiger von Merkel Hinweise zu literarischen Neuerscheinungen bekommen hat und diesen im Gegenzug über literarische Neuigkeiten aus Weimar unterrichtet.
In der 1840 abgedruckten Version dieses Briefs wurden einige Teile, vor allem diejenigen, die nichts mit Merkel zu tun haben, herausgestrichen.

Merkel Cell Carcinoma Presenting as an Indurated Plaque
No full textMerkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma that most commonly occurs in elderly Caucasian males who have a history of extensive sun exposure. Most cases of Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) present in the outpatient setting and include a single, asymptomatic, red or pink lesion on sun exposed areas with a diameter less than 2 cm. There was a threefold increase in the incidence of MCC from 1986 to 2001, and the incidence of MCC is predicted to continue to increase secondary to the aging “baby boomer” population. To our knowledge, there are only two case reports that describe MCC resembling and receiving the diagnosis of cellulitis at initial presentation. We report an unusual case of MCC presenting as suspected cellulitis of the chest wall in an elderly Caucasian male
