Black Employment in the South
This paper summarizes the major findings of the 'Negro Employment in the South Project (NES). The main objective of the NES project was to analyze black employment patterns in 13 Southern states with a view to making policy recommendations to improve black employment opportunities. The specific questions raised were: (1) What are the black employment patterns and trends? (2) What are the main explanations for the patterns and trends? Policy and Program Issues in Rural Manpower Development
This paper discusses some of the policy and program issues in rural manpower development. It starts with a brief discussion of the main changes taking place in rural America. It then analyzes the problems of migrant workers; rural industrialization; rural manpower problems and programs; the applicability of workmen's compensation, unemployment insurance,and minimum wages to agricultural workers; and the extent of and prospects for collective bargaining in agriculture. Toward Better Health Care for Rural Americans
Testimony prepared for the U. S. Senate Subcommittee on Rural Development, Hearings on Rural Health Care. Few problems are more important to rural people than adequate health care. Despite the myth that rural people universally enjoy good health,
solid evidence to the contrary exists. Infant mortality rates are as high as 70 percent above the national average in selected rural areas. Age adjusted death rates are higher in non metropolitan areas than metropolitan areas, and have been declining at a slower rate in rural areas than in urban areas.Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resource
