Between Scylla and Charybdis: The Mediation of Controversial Ideas in the Boekzaal van Europe, 1692-1701
In his erudite periodical Pieter Rabus reflected on the most recent developments in the Republic of Letters. As the author of the Boekzaal van Europe, he attempted to convey heterodox ideas to his audience, resulting in several controversies. By depicting Rabus’ propagation of dowsing, his defense of De Betoverde Weereld, and his treatment of influential magistrates, this thesis analyses various ways in which Rabus mediated the controversial content of his periodical to his audience. Between 1694 and 1698 his journal was under censorship for explicitly refuting the doctrines of the Reformed Church. Nonetheless, Rabus sought to further advocate his views, he partially ignored the censorship and chose to express his controversial thought in a veiled manner. When his journal was faced with severe threats of cancellation, Rabus applied his agency as an author to avoid censorship; he captured the benevolence of the city magistrates, and the ecclesiastical censorship was lifted
The dynamics of Southern Carpathian dialects
The dynamics of Southern Carpathian dialects - abstract The aim of this work is to describe the development of Southern Carpathian dialects in two state entities, in northeastern Slovakia and the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, in the last 70 years. Starting material are recordings of dialectal speech and their transcription obtained in own field research conducted since 2011 within the studied area, especially in villages located close to the Slovak-Ukrainian state border. The focus of this work is a description of the dynamics of the phonetic, morphological and lexical system of the dialects of two villages, Ublya, which was chosen due to the long tradition of dialect research, and Malyi Bereznyi, the nearest neighboring village on the territory of Ukraine. Here until World War II closely related Southern Carpathian dialects had been developing in the same sociolinguistic conditions. After World War II they were separated by the Czechoslovak- Soviet border and came under the influence of different standard languages - Slovak, on the one hand, and Ukrainian and Russian on the other hand. A comparison of older material with the results of our field research enables to observe a dialectal divergence caused by leveling processes oriented to different standard languages. Data obtained in Ublya and Malyi..

Emissivity of patterned silicon wafers in rapid thermal processing
The influence of patterns on emissivity in silicon wafers in rapid thermal processing systems has been investigated. In this study, two experiments with layered and patterned silicon wafers were conducted. The main difference in the experiments is the way in which the temperature was controlled. The first experiment was performed under Open Loop Intensity Control (OLIC). For OLIC, no feedback from the wafer is returned. It is assumed that supplying a certain power level will lead to the desired temperature. The other experiment used the Closed Loop Intensity Control. In this case, a feedback, in the form of temperature deviation is used to adjust the temperature.
By using the Stefan-Boltzmann T4-law, a heat balance equation describing the incoming and outgoing heat can be derived. This heat balance equation can be used to calculate the spatial temperature differences due to different emissivities of the various thin film layers of patterned wafers. A mathematical model was developed based on the heat balance equation. The mathematical model was verified with experiments. The model showed good agreement with the experiments
