Captain Mark Johnson
Captain Mark Johnson behind the wheel of the Carrie B. Seafood Shack Sightseeing Boat. The 112-foot-long vessel arrived at the Cortez eatery on November 30, 1982 from its home in Norfolk, VA. Johnson had been with the boat for 13 years, including on its trip from the north. He began as a summertime deckhand, working his way to the top deck and captain's chair. While docked at the Seafood Shack, the Carrie B. ran three 90-minute cruises daily, taking customers south down Longboat Key before turning back to Cortez. The Mississippi-style paddle-wheel boat was owned by Steve and David Jordan of Portsmouth, VA and under charter to John Velinoff of Cortez Yacht Sales. It officially launched tours on Jan 6, 1983 with a party hosted by Seafood Shack owner Ham Jones
