Common law and the common good
The last few years have seen a renaissance of thinking about the common good amongst constitutional scholars working within the common law world. Interestingly however, analysis of the common good remains grounded primarily within the classic legal tradition, itself rooted in civilian jurisprudence. The connection between the common good and the common law tradition, particularly common law constitutionalism, remains somewhat underexplored. Drawing on the work of TRS Allan, I hope to bridge some of this divide in emphasis by exploring the role of the common law within the classical natural law tradition. However, I also wish to suggest that neutrality on questions of the good life, a hallmark of Dworkin’s political liberalism, is not sustainable in light of the commitment, embraced by both him and Allan, that law must serve the public good. If law is to be a public asset – a common good – it cannot refuse to take a stand on the flourishing of legal subjects. Indeed, it manifestly does not. To constitute a defensible scheme of justice, law must be justified as a plausible attempt at the common good, intended to improve the lives of its subjects by facilitating their flourishing among a community of moral equals. With this in mind, common good constitutionalism presents a challenge and a rallying cry to anti-positivists, encouraging them to follow through on their commitment to the idea that the rule of law demands good government in the best interests of the governed. To do this, we must think seriously about what those interests require, paying sufficient attention to the specific context and institutional history of our law. Good government cannot be neutral on the quality of the lives of subjects any more than it can be neutral on the nature and scope of fundamental rights

Specificity of psychopathology in temporal lobe epilepsy
An investigation into the specificity of psychopathology in temporal lobe epilepsy was conducted using the Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory second edition (MMPI-2) profiles. Consecutive series of patients with left temporal lobe epilepsy (n = 49) and those with right temporal lobe epilepsy (n = 45) were compared with patients with other forms of epilepsy (n = 46) and other heterogeneous neurological conditions (n = 69). The investigation focused on the Clinical, Content, and Subscales scales that resembled descriptions of the Interictal Dysphoric Disorder symptoms and Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Personality Traits. Patients with right temporal lobe epilepsy and those with left temporal lobe epilepsy did not have different patterns of scale elevation, nor did they have clinical elevations compared with patients with other types of epilepsy or neurological controls. The MMPI-2 scales that resemble descriptions of the Interictal Dysphoric Disorder or Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Personality Syndrome were not elevated in either group of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy compared with the group of patients with non-temporal lobe epilepsy or heterogeneous neurological controls. This study adds to the mounting body of empirical research that has used standardized measures and matched groups, but failed to detect a special affinity between psychopathology and temporal lobe epilepsy.Amie Foran, Stephen Bowden, Fiona Bardenhagen, Mark Cook and Catherine Mead

FACTORS MOTIVATING IP STUDENTS' EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: BASIS FORAN INTERVENTION PROGRAM
Abstract: The investigation aimed to determine and analyze the common factors motivating the IP learners’ education during the Covid-19 pandemic as a basis for a proposed intervention program in the IP schools at Maasim 2 District, Division of Sarangani. The researcher made use of the descriptive cross-sectional survey design. Additionally, the study utilized Walberg's Educational Productivity Theory, Ryan and Deci Self-Determination Theory, and Weiner Attribution Theory. Moreover, the study found that among the 107 respondents of the study, the five schools had a high level of motivation. It found out that the common factors motivating the IP learners’ education were teachers’ involvement, the learning environment, the family/parent involvement, peer involvement and their personal interest. Hence, the study came up with an intervention program to address the common factors motivating the IP learners. It would initiate programs and activities that would help increase the level of personal interest, peer involvement and parent/family involvement in motivating IP students.

Abstract 2415: Genome-wide alterations in gene expression of prostate cancer (PC) cells surviving neo-adjuvant androgen deprivation therapy
Abstract
Background: Although androgen deprivation therapy initially decreases PC tumor burden, resistance to further androgen receptor (AR)-directed treatments or chemotherapy is inevitable once CRPC is established. We postulated that the stress of ADT triggers widespread alterations in expression that renders a metastable physiologic state conditioned by epigenetic changes that might be initially reversible by targeting non-androgen pathways. We conducted a pilot study to explore genome-wide expression alterations in PC foci surviving 3 months ADT (eADT).
Methods: mRNA from 7 frozen microdissected PC foci and normal counterparts (NC) were processed for RNA-seq. RNA-seq changes in eADT specimens were compared first with NC and the untreated PC in the TCGA PRAD (TCGA) database to castrate resistant (mCRPC) specimens in the dbGAP study phs000915.v1.p1database. The raw data (fastq files) was quantified using kallisto, normalized by TMM using R package edgeR, batch effects corrected using R package SVA. Analysis of differential gene expression by R package sleuth. Pathway and gene set by GSEA, GAGE/pathview packages for Gene Ontology (GO) and KEGG.
Results: TMPRSS2-ERG+, 5/7. Highest DEG in eADT vs. TCGA vs mCRPC were non-coding RNA’s. Among 17431 differentially regulated paths; GSEA of eADT vs TCGA or mCRPC: 341 (1.95%) and 1366 (7.84%) up- vs 46 (0.26%) and 59 (0.34%) down-regulated. KEGG paths, eADT vs. TCGA or mCRPC, 11 and 53 up vs. 2 and 3 down- respectively. Highly down- path in eADT vs TCGA (log q<10-17) was ribosomal vs. cell cycle and DNA replication in mCRPC. Six paths significantly up- in eADT vs TCGA or mCRPC: Wnt, adherence junction, steroid biosynthesis, unsaturated fatty acids, citrate cycle, ErbB. Calcium, MAPK, insulin, GnRH and Hedgehog were also up- in eADT vs mCRPC. AR full-length was marginally higher in eADT than TCGA and lower than mCRPC, no differences in gene targets.
Conclusions: This pilot data shows that ADT triggers a wide range of gene expression alterations that support PC cell survival and may be vulnerable to therapeutic targeting in addition to the androgen pathway. Validation of these findings is planned in a larger set of samples from the same bank.

Prevention and early detection of cervical cancer in the UK
This literature review explores the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer in the UK. Current findings indicate that there is a risk for women under the age of 25 years, who may develop cervical cancer. There appears to be a gap in UK policy that may overlook these women, who are beneath the age for initial screening but exceed the age for vaccination. Despite the inextricable link between sexual activity and cervical cancer, cervical screening and sexual health promotion still appear to be disjointed, and the role of a sexually transmitted infection leading to the development of cervical cancer has not been emphasised enough in public health messages. Further training should be provided and its impact monitored, designed to address this anomaly in health promotion. There are many barriers to health promotion including, those of a societal, cultural and religious nature. Additional research is required to ascertain the types of educational and awareness interventions that would be most effective in promoting and encouraging positive sexual behaviours among young people, and to explore how these might be successfully implemented
Ferocious Hatred or Reverent Coexistence: Disparate Human Ontologies of the Wolf
Throughout millennia humans have coexisted with wolves, often hunting the same prey, and inhabiting shared territories. Myriad distinct cultures have unique ontologies of the wolf, and many of them share a reverence and respect for the wolf as a sacred animal or totem. In sharp contrast, the Euro-American colonists and settlers generally displayed a pernicious hatred of the wolf leading to the mass extermination of wolves and ultimately their near-extinction from the United States by the early twentieth century. My research examines the roots of why the Euro-American’s espoused such a pathological hatred of the wolf, juxtaposing it to the many cultures who revere the wolf. While much of the hatred and misconceptions towards wolves continues to persist in this country, there are many people now shifting to more of an appreciation and respect for the wolf. To trace this shift, I document how some scientists, government agencies, organizations, groups and individuals are beginning to recognize the fundamental significance and values of the wolf and are making steps to protect and rewild wolves to US wilderness areas. I review the current research that explains how reestablishing wolf populations can cause significant positive effects throughout the food chain of an ecosystem, through a process known as trophic cascades. I also provide an overview of recent legislative changes in regards to the protection/reintroduction of wolves and look at the grassroots work being done to protection of the wolves. My research is informed by a 3 month internship at Wolfwood Refuge, working with wolves and wolf/dog mixes that have been illegally bred and/or mistreated resulting in them being brought to the refuge for a better life and to educate the public about wolves. The goal of my research is to reflect on ways we can continue to transform our perspectives of wolves and relearn to coexist with them for the benefit of the ecology of the earth
