No full text"Mobilising the Audience" is the first comprehensive integration of industry and academic audience research in Australia. Introducing new directions in method and analysis, this contemporary probe into 'audience-making' illustrates the ways marketers, producers and governments mobilise an audience. Included are case studies of Generation X, computer gaming, the child audience, TV ratings, Aboriginal media, and Asian community television. Such a diverse range provides real life contexts for students, professionals and industry workers, introducing them to the critical links between research about media audiences and use of that research in making decisions about policy and content. Readers will be interested, too, in the significance of geo-demographics in public opinion polls, and the influence of audience in the shaping of our cultural institutions

No full textJason Mark is the author of 'Satellites in the High Country." Searching for the Wild in the Age of Man an d the editor in chief of SIERRA, the national magazine of the Sierra Club. His writings on the environment have also appeared n the New Yrok Times, The Nation. TheAtlantic.com and Salon.com, among many other publications. He is a co-founder of Alemany Farm, an urban farm in San Francisco.Lecture delivered at Humboldt State University on October 27, 2016 by Jason Mark. Part of the Sustainable futures speaker series sponsored by the Schatz Energy Research Center and the Environment and Community Program. In the 21st century, on the verge of what some are calling the Anthropocene, is there any place that's still really, truly wild? And, if so, how can we hold onto wildness as a touchstone for our relationship with the rest of nature? Jason vs GIJOE
No full textThesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2019Jason vs GI JOE is partly an exercise in autobiography, an experiment in relational aesthetics, and an interdisciplinary artist project at the intersection of comic books, creative writing and performance art. This comic book, Jason vs. GIJOE, is a postmodern double erasure, based on the comic book GIJOE: Cobra II (Issue 1). The original pictures from the comic book have been removed, and replaced by a series of short narratives, describing autobiographical events from the life of the author: me, Jason. Speech bubbles from the original have been left to comment back over top of the stories, obscuring meaning but creating moments of unplanned dialogue. The comic is a readymade, twice erased: once to replace the drawings of the initial comic, and again when using the original dialogue bubbles to speak back to the narrative
Encryption safe harbours and data breach notification laws
No full textData breach notification laws require organisations to notify affected persons or regulatory authorities when an unauthorised acquisition of personal data occurs. Most laws provide a safe harbour to this obligation if acquired data has been encrypted. There are three types of safe harbour: an exemption; a rebuttable presumption and factor-based analysis. We demonstrate, using three condition-based scenarios, that the broad formulation of most encryption safe harbours is based on the flawed assumption that encryption is the silver bullet for personal information protection. We then contend that reliance upon an encryption safe harbour should be dependent upon a rigorous and competent risk-based review that is required on a case-by-case basis. Finally, we recommend the use of both an encryption safe harbour and a notification trigger as our preferred choice for a data breach notification regulatory framework. In this podcast we talk about his early career at Boston Children’s where he rose to the director of the Emergency Department before he was thirty, and then how he got a job with PM Pediatric Care when it was an emerging pediatrics urgent care chain because he had written his master’s thesis on the need for pediatrics urgent care in Massachusetts. When the founders heard what he had written, they told him to write his own job description. I had a lot of fun with this interview because Jason is also an alumni of my department’s undergraduate program and I’ve known him for several years, though I had never had the chance to hear his whole story
