    Part 1: EIA and landforms

    No full text
A landform can be considered as a geomorphologic asset. It can be regarded as such not only on the basis of scenic, social, economic and cultural value, but also on the basis of other criteria related to the more general scientific concept of an asset. The methods for recognizing and evaluating geomorphologic assets on a scientific basis can be subdivided into two phases: 1) geomorphologic survey and mapping, and 2) selection from the geomorphologic maps of those landforms that may be considered as assets. Here, evaluations of geomorphologic assets in three different areas are presented. -from Author

Hydrological evolution of the north-central Po Plain: the underfit streams of the Mincio, Oglio and Adda rivers

    No full text
The evolution of the main ancient rivers in the central Po Plain is presented. The study of the present and ancient hydrography shows the presence of at least three cases of underfit streams. Particularly two parameters are misused: the length and the radius of curvature of the meander belts. The data show that ancient hydrography presents geometrical parameters about five times larger than the actual hydrography. Underfit stream marks allow us to know the former discharges and to reconstruct the environmental evolution of the central Po plain in the last 15 000 years. -English summar

Hydrodynamic variations of fluvial systems in the central Po Plain (Northern Italy) in relation to deglaciation

    No full text
This paper studies the different fluvial system behaviours in the Alpine and Apennine plains of the central Po Plain after the last deglaciation. The dated events of the Apennine plain are related to geomorphologicai evidence at the top of the late Pleistocene Alpine aggradation surface. The parameters of abandoned hydrography in the Alpine plain, such as meander wavelength and curvature radius, are measured and compared to the present hydrography in order to estimate palaeodischarge in the glacial period

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Landscape, bioeconomy and wildfire management: a challenge to face very soon

    No full text
Forest fires are increasing in all developed temperate countries and especially in Southern Europe. An unprecedented forest transition is more and more due to land abandonment on one side and, on the other side, to the lack of awareness in urban culture about ecological processes and dynamics. Wildland Urban Interfaces are growing and could represent potential traps in terms of security for people especially where fuel is not monitored and assessed, urban areas are not planned at all and landscape is not properly managed in an integrated way
