    No full text
This contribution considers the socio-economic development of small tourist destinations. Attention is mainly paid to identifying the customer segments and the entrepreneurial dynamics that qualify the supply chain of the tourist industry by analysing the relations among operators who satisfy similar needs (not only direct competitors but also indirect ones) and even those among suppliers and complementors. Further considerations regard the socio-environmental responsibility - and not only that - which the subjects called to promote the development mentioned above must assume. The study commitment limited to small-scale destinations considers the "morphological" characteristics in these spatial circumstances in which some phenomena can worsen, including overtourism, the absence of a part of the offer on-site supply chain, and the lack of specific professional skills

    No full text
This contribution builds upon the intense debate that developed in the media and the academic world through numerous webinars, during the months of the quarantine imposed in Italy by the Covid19 Health Emergency. Experts from different fields and subject areas discussed the issue of the consequences of the pandemic on economic and social systems, in particular in the more industrialized countries, and primarily in Italy, starting from 2020 and, in perspective, for the years to come, as well as on possible recovery paths and, therefore, on the economic policies to be undertaken and the business strategies to be implemented

How the Love of Truth Affects the Role of the Researcher : References to the “Third Mission” of Universities and References to the Field of Business Economics Studies

    No full text
This chapter discusses and highlights the role and, therefore, the responsibility of the researcher, of the scholar, in the context of a university institution, which is not usually limited to knowledge, but also to its transfer into the sphere—in primis—of the universitas studiorum, as well as scolarium (in addition to magistrorum), starting with the concept of “truth” and, subsequently, that of “love”1. Certain prescriptive considerations, which could involve the aforementioned role and, therefore, the ethics of the modus operandi of the researcher in question, with inevitable references to the purposes of their work and their goal of progress for mankind and society, will tendentially be implicit both throughout and subsequently. Regarding society and broadening the perspective from the individual researcher to the organisation to which they belong, we also take a look at the Third Mission of universities as a privileged area in which to exercise the aforementioned responsibility at an institutional level and, moreover, with a focus on business and economic studies, which represent the author’s field of scientific interest

Fostering tourism demand by adopting a collaborative perspective: A case study of a public-private partnership in Western Sicily

    No full text
This study provides insights into a public and private partnership aimed at enhancing tourism demand in Western Sicily by increasing collaboration among neighbouring territories. The work presents the partnership case study relying on primary and secondary data. Relying on the economia aziendale theory and by conducting top-down thematic analysis, the work shows the purposes at the basis of the initiative according to the viewpoints of the entrepreneur who conceived it and the participants, who were used to competing with each other for tourism. The study sheds light on the evolution of tourism governance in the region, highlighting collaboration and coopetition logics and the pivotal role of common good orientation. The results serve as a basis for orienting collaborative partnerships in the tourism sector. In addition, the study contributes to sustainable tourism development practices, showing the relevant role of private and public entities in implementing collaborative governance to enhance tourism demand

SUPPORTING BUSINESS VIABILITY AND COMPETITIVENESS THROUGH SUSTAINABILITY‐BASED ADAPTATION

    No full text
Adaptation to sustainability can serve as a driver for innovation in general and business model innovation in particular. Innovation is pivotal in guaranteeing business model viability and business survival. Indeed, being incapable of innovating business models in response to the feedback of the competitive and social arenas in which organizations operate – such as concerning the requests for more sustainable products and processes – can signal business failure in the long run. According to recent studies, sustainability has the potential to lead businesses toward accomplishing economic, social, and environmental goals, simultaneously enhancing their resource utilization and, therefore, their competitiveness by achieving sustainability-based competitive advantages. Deepening such a role of sustainability can be considered pivotal for academics and professionals due to today’s global sustainability efforts (see Agenda 2030 and the related sustainable development goals). By looking at the prevailing contributions on this topic, this chapter explores how the sustainability-driven adaptability of organizations can support innovation and competitiveness by proposing a framework for sustainability-based business model innovation and competitive advantages

Collaborations Among Cultural Heritage Sites: A Network Analysis Perspective

    No full text
Collaboration is the foundation upon which progress, innovation, and success are built across every aspect of business activity. While extensively studied in literature, with a predominant focus on profit organisations and public-private partnerships, there remains a notable gap in understanding collaborative patterns among cultural institutions. To address this gap, we adopt a network analysis perspective to explore the untapped potential of collaborations among archaeological parks in Sicily, Italy, which form part of a broader cultural system. Employing surveys for data collection, we assess whether archaeological parks are inclined, neutral, or reluctant to engage in future collaborations with the other parks of the system. Our findings reveal a network of potential collaborations and underline the mediator roles assumed by some parks in facilitating the formation of other partnerships. Despite the insights gained, we acknowledge the limitations inherent in our research. Then, we identify future research avenues within this research domain, emphasising the need for continued investigation into collaborative dynamics among cultural institutions
