No full textThe article introduces a previously unknown leaf from a thirteenth-century Antiphonary, recently acquired by the Italian State because of its relevance in the historical context of Medieval Italy. In the first part of the article, Ilaria Vercillo, outlines the acquisition process and identifies the text as the incipit of the feast of St. Mary Magdalen. In the second part, Francesca Manzari discusses her attribution of the illuminated initial to the workshop of the Master of the Conradin Bible, placing the leaf in the context of a dispersed Antiphonary by this workshop and reconstructing the original liturgical sequence of the surviving fragments of this richly illuminated multi-volume liturgical book

Material examined: Brazil: Mato Grosso, 25.iii.1968, (O.W. Richards), ex: undetermined grass (2 slides). Comments: as already mentioned in detail, the redescription and illustrations provided by Bondar (1923) as well as the specimens examined, clearly indicate the appropriate inclusion of this species in Crescentaleyrodes. This species is very close to C. paulianae (Cohic) and maybe they are synonym, but this need to check the type material of the latter species. The specimens of C. paulianae studied for this study were from the same locality and host plant of type materials and showed slightly differences from C. fumipennis.Published as part of Manzari, Shahab & Quicke, Donald L. No full textIl saggio ricostruisce il contesto di produzione di un raro esempio di libro d’ore valenziano della metà del Quattrocento, indagando a fondo i diversi aspetti del raffinato manufatto. Il repertorio decorativo secondario viene ricondotto alla produzione valenziana, mentre le carte incipitarie maggiori, dotate di straordinarie ma inusuali bordure miniate, vengono spiegate identificandone i modelli nella carte da gioco prodotte da un proto-incisore tedesco, spesso utilizzato come repertorio di modelli anche in ambito fiammingo. L’identificazione di un ritratto del destinatario e del suo nome, Alfonso, insieme all’indagine “archeologica” sulle tracce di fogli perduti hanno permesso di proporre Alfonso Borgia, quale committente, alla metà del secolo, prima della sua elezione come papa Callisto IIIThe essay reconstructs the context of production of a rare example of Valencian Book of Hours from the mid-15th century, investigating in-depth the different features of the elegant artefact. The secondary decorative repertory is linked with the illuminated production at Valencia, while the major incipit pages, with extraordinary but unusual illuminated borders, are explained identifying their models in the printed playing cards produced by a German engraver; these were used as model books especially in Flanders. The identification of the owner’s portrait and name, Alfonso, together with the “archeological” analysis of the traces of lost leaves, have enabled the author to propose Alfonso Borgia as the patron, dating the book to the middle of the century, before his election as pope Callixtus II

No full textIl contributo analizza due codici di teoria musicale miniati, riconosciuti per la prima volta come parti di una stessa opera in base all'analisi dei caratteri stilistici, codicologici e testuali. Le miniature dei due manoscritti vengono attribuite alla stessa bottega, guidata da un miniatore formato nell'ambito del pittore Matteo Giovannetti, attivo ad Avignone per il papa alla metà del Trecento. L'esame degli aspetti materiali e storico-artistici da parte di Francesca Manzari e quello dei testi di teoria musicale da parte di Jason Stoessel permettono di collocare i due codici nel contesto avignonese, formulando alcune ipotesi su funzione, uso e possibili destinatari.The article discusses two illuminated manuscripts previously not recognized as volumes of the same project, placing their production in the context of the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti, working in Avignon in the mid-fourteenth century. The contents, containing music treatises, iconographic programme and stylistic ties to the paintings by Giovannetti are examined and the possible patronage is discussed

K. H. Barnard [genitalia preparation SAMC VK105, coll. South African Museum Cape Town (SAMC), RSA]. <i>Buckleria vanderwolfi</i>: 1 male (Holotype), RSA, Cape Prov., Tsitsikamma National Park, Storms River Mouth, 17.–18.ii.1995, leg. H.W. VD Wolf (genitalia preparation CG 2973, coll. CG 22035).</p> <p> <i>Comments: Trichoptilus negotiosus</i> was excluded from the analyses owing to the lack of sufficient specimens, but the study of the holotype (male) of this species and <i>B. vanderwolfi</i> by the second author revealed that they were conspecific considering both morphological and genitalia characters. Therefore, here we consider <i>B. vanderwolfi</i> as a junior synonym of <i>T. negotiosus</i>.
