A duo performance for Pointing-at glove and live electronics. Theme is concerned with social inequalities. Mani means hands in Italian but it also sounds like the word "money" in English. Our future is in few people\u27 s hands. Do you feel safe?Technical Description: This performance investigates the use of hand gestures for the creation and manipulation of sounds in real-time for a live performance. Gestures vocabulary is built according to theatrical features that reconnect to the underlying storyboard presented in the performance. This is done so that the cause- effect links between gestures and sounds can be re-established within a context that helps to classify the gesture in its metaphorical context.

No full textLetters and cables contain correspondence between Mr S. Sadanand (editor and founder of Free Press Journal), and P.R.S. Mani. Contents relate to articles written by P.R.S. Mani and Free Press Journal editorial policy, particularly in relation to identifying authors (with bylines as was then the American practice – Sadanand refuses Mani’s request for such identification) and to setting up a consolidated news office in Singapore. Mani is confirmed as FPJ correspondent for Malaya and Singapore.

No full textIn questo articolo focalizzo l’attenzione sulla questione dei generi letterari in relazione alla scrittura a quattro mani. In particolare, intendo verificare quanto e come la scrittura a quattro mani influisca sulla scelta del genere letterario da parte degli autori. Al fine di indagare efficacemente tale questione ho compiuto una catalogazione delle opere composte a quattro mani, nel contesto occidentale, comprensiva delle pubblicazioni edite fino a dicembre 2013 (l’indagine si riferisce in particolare agli stati seguenti: Portogallo, Spagna, Inghilterra. Francia, Svezia, Danimarca, Germania, Italia e Stati Uniti d’America). Tale ricerca quantitativa ha condotto ad evidenziare alcune rilevanti regolarità. Dopo aver, quindi, individuato nel ‘sottogenere’ del romanzo giallo e noir quello più sfruttato, sono passata all’analisi de Il mistero della strada di Sintra (1884) di J. M. Eça de Queiroz e J. D. Ramalho Ortigão. L’interesse suscitato da questo romanzo deriva solo in parte dal fatto che è la prima opera a carattere poliziesco della letteratura portoghese, ma anche dallo stile pungente e ironico, dall’escamotage letterario, ideato e sapientemente sfruttato, dell’apparizione del romanzo ‘a puntate’ sul «Diário de Notícias», dal sapiente uso dei personaggi – e in particolare di quello di Luisa –, da tutte le riflessioni critico-ideologiche, sia a livello letterario sia sociale, che puntellano il testo

Textiles were offered to Indonesia as a free gift by Bombay merchants (who were sympathisers to Congress.
Refers to a Mr Punjabi (Sindhi). This may have been the textile merchant in Surabaya, and an associate of T.D. Kundan (1911-1980). In 1946 one of the Punjabi families had temporarily returned to Hyderabad.</p

Bilinguals implicitly name objects in both their languages: an ERP study
No full textUpon being presented with a familiar name-known image, monolingual infants and adults implicitly generate the image's label (Meyer et al., 2007; Mani and Plunkett, 2010, 2011; Mani et al., 2012a). Although the cross-linguistic influences on overt bilingual production are well studied (for a summary see Colomé and Miozzo, 2010), evidence that bilinguals implicitly generate the label for familiar objects in both languages remains mixed. For example, bilinguals implicitly generate picture labels in both of their languages, but only when tested in L2 and not L1 (Wu and Thierry, 2011) or when immersed in their L2 (Spivey and Marian, 1999; Marian and Spivey, 2003a,b) but not when immersed in their L1 (Weber and Cutler, 2004). The current study tests whether bilinguals implicitly generate picture labels in both of their languages when tested in their L1 with a cross-modal ERP priming paradigm. The results extend previous findings by showing that not just do bilinguals implicitly generate the labels for visually fixated images in both of their languages when immersed in their L1, but also that these implicitly generated labels in one language can prime recognition of subsequently presented auditory targets across languages (i.e., L2–L1). The current study provides support for cascaded models of lexical access during speech production, as well as a new priming paradigm for the study of bilingual language processing.Open-Access-Publikationsfonds 201
Dual Chemical-Electric Propulsion Systems Design for Interplanetary CubeSats
No full textInterplanetary CubeSats enable universities and smallspacecraft- consortia to pursue low-cost, high-risk and highgain Solar System Exploration missions, especially Mars; for which cost-effective, reliable, and flexible space systems need to be developed. Missions to Mars can be achieved through a) in-situ deployment by a mothership and b) highly flexible stand-alone CubeSats on deep-space cruise. The current work focuses on sizing and establishing critical design parameters for dual chemical-electric propulsion systems that shall enable a stand-alone 16U CubeSat mission on a hybrid high-thrust & low-thrust trajectory. High thrust is used to escape Earth whereas low-thrust is used in autonomous deep-space cruise, achieving ballistic capture, and emplacement on an areosynchronous orbit at Mars. Chemical propulsion characterisation is based on V requirement and a heuristic optimisation of thrust, specific impulse and burn time while balancing transfer time and propellant mass. Limitations are set to minimise destabilising momentum. Electric propulsion characterisation is based on the V, power consumption, and trajectory requirements for fueloptimal and time-optimal strategies. The sizes amount to 16% and 21% of the assumed total mass ( 30 kg) for chemical and electric systems, respectively.Space Systems Egineerin
