    Effects of Superheat and Solute Additions on the Grain Size in Binary Copper Alloys

By utilizing data from the literature, we examine the effects of superheat and solute additions on the grain size (as measured by columnar grain length) in binary copper alloys. Our investigation provides support for an Arrhenius-like behavior of the superheat on the grain size. We also find a correlation between the columnar grain length at a constant degree of superheat and the variation of the reciprocal of the true growth restriction factor (1/Q) with P, Mg, Mn, Pb, and Sn solute additions to be a power of law of 1/3, which gave a better fit than a linear one.EPSRC (UK

    Introduction: Among cancers of the female genital tract, the incidence of ovarian cancer ranks below only carcinoma of the cervix and the endometrium. Recent years have witnessed significant development in the use of immunohistochemistry in diagnostic ovarian pathology. Materials and Methods: We received 95 specimens and biopsies of primary ovarian neoplasms and neoplasms metastatic to the ovary in a period of 2 years. Of these 30 cases were of the primary surface epithelial neoplasms and seven of metastatic tumors. Discussion: The most common tumors metastasizing to the ovary originate from the gastrointestinal tract followed by the endometrium. We used a panel of six markers including cytokeratin-7 (CK7), CK20, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), estrogen receptor (ER) and Wilms′ tumor 1 (WT1) to help classify various surface epithelial tumors as well as to differentiate them from tumors metastatic to the ovary. Conclusion: CK7 is the most helpful marker to differentiate primary ovarian carcinoma from metastatic colorectal carcinoma of the ovary. Nearly, 96% of ovarian adenocarcinomas were positive for CK7 in contrast to metastatic colorectal, which showed only 25% positivity. We also found that CK7, CK20 and CEA are useful markers to differentiate primary serous tumors from primary mucinous tumors; however, these are less helpful in differentiating ovarian mucinous adenocarcinomas from colorectal adenocarcinomas metastasizing to the ovaries.     The beginning of a beautiful relationship: A case study on an immersive filmmaking process

    In 2007 filmmaker (and co-author), Shreepali Patel was asked to document an art installation, Journey (2007) curated by the human rights activist and actress, Emma Thompson. The installation recorded a journey of a young trafficked woman based on the first-person testimony by a young girl trafficked through the offer of hope and a better life. Journey (2007) was designed to be an experiential and physically immersive experience which would allow the audience to ‘feel for 5 minutes’ what it would be like to be trafficked. The installation consisted of 7 containers each designed by a different artist, creating their own individual interpretation of an element of the young girl’s journey. A few years later, a digital version of the exhibition was suggested which Patel started crafting, called The Crossing (2017). This multi-platform project was designed to play out to multiple stakeholders including those directly vulnerable to trafficking techniques and audience responses, detailed below, capture how exhibition visitors became emotionally and psychologically involved in the human trafficking story The Crossing (2017). This chapter focuses on the production and post-production processes, the cross-disciplinary teamwork and the relationship between the director’s vision – ideation, story, creative concepts – and its effective realisation through sound design, cinematography, visual effects and editing. This collaborative creative practice account of the making of The Crossing reveals how this multi-award winning, immersive and impactful project on trafficking was realised

    Reading at risk: why effective literacy practice is not effective.

    The gap between high and low achievers in reading is wide in New Zealand compared to other countries as shown in PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) 2001 and 2006 studies. Students of minority backgrounds and low socio-economic status are over-represented in the low achieving category. As the primary response to reduce the achievement gap, the Government developed and distributed the literacy teaching reference Effective Literacy Practice in Years 1 to 4. This article examines Effective Literacy Practice against current scientificbased international research in the teaching of reading, with particular emphasis on the teaching of reading to students at risk. Research evidence shows that an explicit and systematic approach to teaching reading is critical to the success of reading achievement with at-risk students. With a heavy leaning towards incidental learning, Effective Literacy Practice fails to provide teachers with the necessary knowledge to effectively teach the critical components of reading

To assess beneficial and adverse effects of psychological, social and welfare interventions versus no treatment for the reduction of psychological distress in torture survivors. Secondary objectives 2. To describe the quality and generalisability of the studies evaluating the effects of these treatment approaches on torture survivors, and specifically: • to provide an objective assessment of risk of bias in these studies; • to describe the specific populations evaluated in studies of torture survivors (including demographics, torture experiences and psychological status); • to describe the variety of interventions that have been evaluated in these populations; and • to describe the outcomes evaluated in these intervention studies

    We study the equation (x−4r)3+(x−3r)3+(x−2r)3+(x−r)3+x3+(x+r)3+(x+2r)3+(x+3r)3+(x+4r)3=yp, which is a natural continuation of previous works carried out by A. Argáez-García and the fourth author (perfect powers that are sums of cubes of a three, five and seven term arithmetic progression). Under the assumptions 00 a positive integer and gcd(x,r)=1 we show that there are infinitely many solutions for p=2 and p=3 via explicit constructions using integral points on elliptic curves. We use an amalgamation of methods in computational and algebraic number theory to overcome the increased computational challenge. Most notable is a significant computational efficiency obtained through appealing to Bilu, Hanrot and Voutier's Primitive Divisor Theorem and the method of Chabauty, as well as employing a Thue equation solver earlier on

    P-Doped Porous Carbon as Metal Free Catalysts for Selective Aerobic Oxidation with an Unexpected Mechanism

    An extremely simple and rapid (seconds) approach is reported to directly synthesize gram quantities of P-doped graphitic porous carbon materials with controlled P bond configuration. For the first time, it is demonstrated that the P-doped carbon materials can be used as a selective metal free catalyst for aerobic oxidation reactions. The work function of P-doped carbon materials, its connectivity to the P bond configuration, and the correlation with its catalytic efficiency are studied and established. In direct contrast to N-doped graphene, the P-doped carbon materials with higher work function show high activity in catalytic aerobic oxidation. The selectivity trend for the electron donating and withdrawing properties of the functional groups attached to the aromatic ring of benzylic alcohols is also different from other metal free carbon based catalysts. A unique catalytic mechanism is demonstrated, which differs from both GO and N-doped graphene obtained by high temperature nitrification. The unique and unexpected catalytic pathway endows the P-doped materials with not only good catalytic efficiency but also recyclability. This, combined with a rapid, energy saving approach that permits fabrication on a large scale, suggests that the P-doped porous materials are promising materials for “green catalysis” due to their higher theoretical surface area, sustainability, environmental friendliness and low cost.This document is the Accepted Manuscript version of a Published Work that appeared in final form in ACS Nano, copyright © American Chemical Society after peer review and technical editing by the publisher.
