Results of an European Project for preservation of UNESCO Cultural Hertiga in Georgia and Lebanon
WAR FREE WORLD HERITAGE LISTED CITIES project has been designed and co-financed within the framework of the EC ENP Instrument through the CIUDAD program and arises from an international cooperation among the Council of the United Municipalities of Byblos (Lebanon), the Head of the Board of the City of Mtskheta (Georgia), the World Association for the protection of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in times of armed conficts – WATCH (Italy) and the University of Bologna (Italy). The project focuses on urban and regional planning for cities that are registered in the World Heritage List and located in critical areas being exposed to the threats of conflict and natural hazards such as earthquakes or flood. As case studies, Risk Preparedness Plans and Risk Mitigation measures have been defined for the cities of Byblos and Mtskheta abiding with the Guidelines issued in 2009 by UNESCO for the implementation of the Second Protocol of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Properties in times of armed conflicts. During its thirty months of duration, the project has developed a strategy to create the required conditions for both Byblos and Mtskheta to be candidates for enhanced protection status to UNESCO
EUTOS score predicts early optimal response to imatinib according to the revised 2013 ELN recommendations
EUTOS score is able to predict optimal response to imatinib, in particular, achievement of molecular response at 3 months, a marker of emerging importance in predicting long-term outcome, and of CCyR at 6 months, that has been associated with superior progression-free and overall survival. Sokal score predict sensibly cytogenetic responses, but seems less efficacious in identifying patients that will achieve optimal molecular endpoints
Immunotherapy approaches to treat adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Recent developments in immunotherapy are improving treatment results of B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This advancement is promoted by new monoclonal antibodies such as inotuzumab ozogamicin, ofatumumab and blinatumomab, by rituximab, and by genetically engineered chimeric antigen receptor-modified T-cells. These treatments, variously targeting CD22, CD20 and CD19 antigens, yield unprecedented high rates of hematologic and molecular remissions even when used in monotherapy and in chemo-resistant or post-transplantation relapsed patients. Beside the encouraging results in relapsed/refractory disease, these agents may open a totally new era in the frontline management of this illness, redefining treatment standards and options for different risk subsets and placing the achievement of a molecular remission at the forefront of treatment objectives. The ever increasing importance of modern immunotherapy in improving treatment design and therapeutic outcome is reviewed
