    No full text
In the past two decades, Nepal has gone through revolutionary changes in the traditional model and the online or digital model of journalism, progressively adapting to contemporary global trends in news-making. Both models are developing and show greater participation of the people. However, these two models have certain pros and cons, which make them preferable to other models in terms of accessibility, low price, reliability and enforceability. This article plans to offer a hypothetical reflection on the emergence of online journalism in Nepal. At the same time, the article discusses how traditional media has evolved over time and the impact of digital media on the working of traditional media. This article also argues that, to ensure the best and positive use of the internet and related technologies for communication, Nepal needs to develop an online media policy. Consequently, the author concludes that both models do not run contrary to each other and can work together for greater results

Nepali media is prone to spreading fake news, and the damage caused by misinformation intensifies during a crisis. Taking into consideration a variety of works from scholars, the authors looked at the various factors that affected the news media in Nepal such as technology, government policies and fear during a public health crisis. In this analysis, two communication theories were used, namely, social responsibility theory of the press and agenda-setting theory. The authors intended to analyze misinformation’s impact on Nepal during the pandemic and how the effect was minimized greatly through community radio. In this regard, the authors looked into instances of misinformation and drew a parallel to current situation in Nepal. Secondly, the paper analysed the negative impacts caused by misinformation in Nepal in general and during COVID-19. The third aspect that the author focused on was the positive effect that community radio had on the country and how several other measures could be adopted to tackle the situation. The authors found that community radio played an influential positive role in alleviating the threat posed by fake news in Nepal, and this method could be sought after during crises to tackle misinformation. The paper concluded with the iteration that the local communities which adopted radio as a means of communication during COVID-19 did a thorough job of holding the fort in handling the spread of fake news. It was concluded that Nepal had attempted to reach out to indigenous communities through radios, and, although many other steps needed to be taken, this was a step in the right directio

When Wildfires Close Borders: Tatopani, Trade and Climate Risk

The temporary closure of the Tatopani border following a massive wildfire in China’s Nyalam-Khasa corridor may seem like an isolated environmental incident. However, it exposes deeper vulnerabilities in Nepal-China trade. With the Rasuwagadhi crossing already closed after the July 2025 floods, Tatopani had become the main overland trade route, leaving hundreds of containers stranded and supply chains disrupted. The closure highlights Nepal’s heavy reliance on a few fragile Himalayan corridors and the power asymmetry in border management, as decisions on reopening are largely controlled by the Chinese side. Beyond immediate disruptions, the incident also highlights how climate volatility is becoming a structural factor in Himalayan connectivity, complicating trade diversification efforts and revealing the absence of institutionalised Nepal-China mechanisms to manage cross-border environmental risks
