Health data linkage in Australia remains challenging1 as reflected in our recent experience of multi‐jurisdictional data linkage. We welcome the Population Health Research Network (PHRN) collaborative's initiatives in establishing a streamlined and unified application process in multi‐jurisdictional data linkage projects, and we fully support their vision. We acknowledge the concerns raised by Flack and Smith2 and take this opportunity to elaborate.Full Tex
The social exclusion in the novel Fahim Bey ve Biz: Conflicts between ındividual and society
Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar is one of the writers of twentieth century Turkish Literature. Although he has written works in different fields of literature, he is mainly known for his novels. One of the important works of the author is Fahim Bey ve Biz (Fahim Bey and We). The principal character of the novel is in contradiction with his environment. These conflicts are reflected in his personality. In this context, we also see that the hero has a dualist personality. Seeing himself as rich although he is poor, and pretending to be a businessman even though he has no job are indications of his dualist personality. The important reason for this is that the society excludes Fahim Bey, and does not treat it tolerantly. Fahim Bey is exposed to social exclusion with all his oddities. Withdrawing to his own shell, he is completely alone. Social exclusion is defined as a phenomenon that consists of contradictions between the individual and the society. In this article, Fahim Bey ve Biz novel by Abdülhak Şinasi Hisar is examined within the contect af the concept of social exclusion. The contradictions leading to social exclusion between the society and the individual were tried to be revealed by analyzing. Descriptive analysis method was used in the study
Macro Consumption Function in an Islamic Framework by Fahim Khan: Comments
This is a critique of an article of M. Fahim Khan pulished in an earlier issue of the same journal It argues that in other economic systems including capitalism too play an important role to mitigate the hardships of the poor but unlike the Islamic system they do not show their impact on income determination. Transfer of income to the poor via zakah will reduce the saving potential of the economy. To what extent this will be neutralized by the rich abstaining from frivolous spending due to the fear of God is uncertain. Hence the macro model of the author to demonstrate the superiority of the Islamic system is not convincing

Scalable platforms for computation and memory in living cells
Thesis: Ph. D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Biology, 2018.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 245-265).Living cells are biological computers - constantly sensing, processing and responding to biological cues they receive over time and space. Devised by evolution, these biological machines are capable of performing many computing and memory operations, some of which are analogous to and some are distinct from man-made computers. The ability to rationally design and dynamically control genetic programs in living cells in a robust and scalable fashion offers unprecedented capacities to investigate and engineer biological systems and holds a great promise for many biotechnological and biomedical applications. In this thesis, I describe foundational platforms for computation and memory in living cells and demonstrate strategies for investigating biology and engineering robust, scalable, and sophisticated cellular programs. These include platforms for genomically-encoded analog memory (SCRIBE - Chapter 2), efficient and generalizable DNA writers for spatiotemporal recording and genome engineering (HiSCRIBE - Chapter 3), single-nucleotide resolution digital and analog computing and memory (DOMINO - Chapter 4), concurrent, autonomous and high-capacity recording of signaling dynamics and events histories for cell lineage mapping with tunable resolution (ENGRAM - Chapter 5), continuous in vivo evolution and synthetic Lamarckian evolution (DRIVE - Chapter 6), tunable and multifunctional transcriptional factors for gene regulation in eukaryotes (crisprTF - Chapter 7), and an unbiased, high-throughput and combinatorial strategy for perturbing transcriptional networks for genetic screening (PRISM - Chapter 8). I envision the platforms and approaches described herein will enable broad applications for investigating basic biology and engineering cellular programs.by Fahim Farzadfard.Ph. D

RETRACTION: Optimization of conditions for the biological treatment of textile dyes using isolated soil bacteria
The article titled “Optimization of conditions for the biological treatment of textile dyes using isolated soil bacteria” ([version 1; referees: peer review discontinued]. F1000Research 2018, 7:351 https://doi.org/10.12688/f1000research.13757.1) by Shafkat Shamim Rahman and colleagues, has been retracted by F1000Research on grounds of misconduct by the first author. Following publication of the article, the editorial team at F1000Research were notified by Romana Siddique, from BRAC University, that the data presented in this paper significantly overlaps with the data in her recently published article : Siddique and Alif; ARRB, 22(5): 1-12, 2018; Article no.ARRB.38637; https://doi.org/10.9734/ARRB/2018/38637. In response to our queries to the authors, the second and last author listed on this article, Fahim Ahmed Alif and M. Mahboob Hossain, have stated that they were not aware of the submission of this article to F1000Research, and did not agree to be authors. We have evidence which confirms their statement. After further investigation by the F1000Research team, and a separate investigation by BRAC University, it has become clear that Shafkat Shamim Rahman was not involved with the research presented in this paper, and that the decision to submit and publish the article was taken independently by him, and not his listed co-authors. BRAC University has confirmed that Shafkat Shamim Rahman is not currently based at their institution.</ns4:p
On a generalization of power algorithms over max-plus algebra
In this paper we discuss a generalization of power algorithms over max-plus algebra. We are interested in finding such a generalization starting from various existing power algorithms. The resulting algorithm can be used to determine the so-called generalized eigenmode of any square regular matrix over max-plus algebra. In particular, the algorithm can be applied in the case of regular reducible matrices in which the existing power algorithms can not be used to compute eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors.Accepted Author ManuscriptMathematical Physic
