Changes in hemoglobin concentration in the lateral occipital regions during shape recognition: a near-infrared spectroscopy study
By using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), we measured the changes in the oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin (oxy-Hb and deoxy-Hb, respectively) concentrations while performing visual tasks. We conducted experiments using two tasks: a shape recognition task and a position recognition task. It was found that the oxy-Hb concentration was substantially higher in the lateral occipital regions during shape recognition than during position recognition. The changes in the oxy-Hb concentration were considered to reflect the activation difference between the two tasks. No difference was observed in the oxy-Hb concentration during the memorization of shape and memorization of position. The deoxy-Hb concentration was different between the two tasks only when different stimuli were used but not when identical stimuli were used. In addition, it was suggested that the deoxy-Hb concentration is more sensitive to activation difference between the hemispheres and the activation at some regions. Measurements of the oxy-Hb and deoxy-Hb concentrations would reflect different aspects of cortical activations. The present results showed that measuring the oxy-Hb and deoxy-Hb concentrations separately can differentiate the activation of the regional cortical functions

Postcard from Don to Goro Fujii, June 16, 1945
Postcard from Don to Goro Fujii in the Poston incarceration camp depicting the Oriole room at the YMCA hotel in Chicago, Illinois. Includes greeting from Don.The Japanese American Archival Collection documents the people, places, and daily life of Japanese Americans, primarily those who lived in the once thriving community of pre-war Florin in the Sacramento region, as well as the conditions in American incarceration camps during World War II. The approximately 7,000 original items include personal and official letters, photographs, diaries, arts and crafts, newsletters, textiles, camps artifacts, yearbooks and other publications

Disenchanting Japan: Japanese Futurity in Neuromancer and the Science Fiction of Masaki Goro
I apply enchantment theory to William Gibson's Neuromancer and several works by the Japanese SF author Masaki Goro to reveal shared assumptions about Japan as the locus of an emergent techno-social hybridity. Both Gibson and Masaki register signs of widespread disenchantment stemming from an increasingly technologically advanced society with a ruthlessly efficient take on capitalism. However, they mobilize their portrayals to different ends. I demonstrate that the authors diverge in their assessments of a technologically-mediated reenchantment. I also argue that the authors' use of conventions from hard-boiled fiction performs several functions. First, it ironically highlights the impossibility of nostalgia in such a future world, where the concept of home is divested of stability. Second, it evinces an anxiety over the transition from individualistic subjectivity to decentered posthumanity. Third, it reinforces the theme of the supplantation of the traditional nation-state by hyper-capitalist forms

Jual Beli Makanan di Kedai Tanpa Pencantuman Harga Ditinjau dari Kompilasi Hukum Ekonomi Syariah (Studi pada Kedai Abdullah Goro Assalam Kec. Kartasura Kab. Sukoharjo)
Mu'amalah is a very broad field of Islam to study and also closely related to doing business and trading. In buying food, people prefer places that provide many menus and affordable prices. Kedai Abdullah is one of the restaurants that is in great demand by buyers. However, in reality the food is bought and sold at sell without price quotation. It can be said that buying and selling of some kind it contains an element of disguise, due to the lack of deep price transparency implementation of the sale and purchase resulting in the cancellation of the contract because elements were not achieved willingness element. As explained in article 29 KHES that the contract valid as referred to in article 26 letter (a) is the contract that was agreed upon in the agreement, does not contain elements of ghalath or error, done below ikrah or coercion, taghrir or hoax, and ghubn or disguise. That matter It can cause frustration to buyers especially when the price has to be paid was far from what was expected, the buyer also felt disadvantaged so that in the sale and purchase the element of willingness is not achieved. The problem in this research is how to carry out buying and selling food in restaurants without price inclusion at Kedai Abdullah Goro Assalam Kec. Kartasura Kab. Sukoharjo, what are the factors behind the exclusion of prices at Abdullah Goro Assalam shop, Kec. Kartasuran Kab. Sukoharjo and how to review the compilation of sharia economic law on the sale and purchase of food without price inclusion at Abdullah Goro Assalam shop, Kec. Kartasuran Kab. Sukoharjo. The purpose of this study was to determine the system of buying and selling food at Abdullah's shop, to determine the factors behind the exclusion of food prices at Abdullah Goro Assalam's shop, Kec. Kartasuran Kab. Sukoharjo and to find out the compilation of sharia economic law on food buying and selling at Abdullah Goro Assalam shop, Kec. Kartasuran Kab. Sukoharjo. This research is classified as field research (field research). Primary data were collected from interviews. The author uses a purposive sampling technique, namely the sampling technique of data sources with certain considerations. The author takes the available population, namely 3 people, namely the customer of Abdullah's shop and 1 of the owner of the Abdullah shop. Data processing was done through editing and systematization of data analysis done qualitatively with deductive thinking method.Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the implementation of selling buy food without price inclusion in the compilation of sharia economic laws allowed. As stated in article 78 KHES which reads several things that are included in the sale and purchase, even if not specified firmly in the co ntract in letter (a). The problem does not result in the sale and purchase being canceled, because of the transaction it has become a community habit that is difficult to avoid and already has a consensual basis. Because I have become a habit and have a consensual basis then this is allowed as long as it is does not violate the provisions of syar'i law

Investigating the Form-Meaning Mapping in the Acquisition of English and Japanese Measure Phrase Comparatives
We present a set of experiments investigating how English- and Japanese-speaking children interpret Measure Phrase comparatives (e.g., X is 10 meters taller than Y / X-wa Y-yori 10-meters takai). We show that despite overt cues to the comparative interpretation (i.e., the comparative -er morpheme in English, and explicit linguistic and visual reference to a contextual standard), children representing both languages diverge from their adult counterparts in that they access a non-adult-like ‘absolute measurement’ interpretation (i.e., X is 10 meters tall). We propose to account for their response pattern by appealing to proposals by Svenonius and Kennedy (2006) and Sawada and Grano (2011) that Meas in the head of the DegP, which houses the differential, selects for an absolute minimal value: zero. We argue that young children appeal to this absolute zero minimum in lieu of the correct derived standard, and must learn to override this value by appealing to the context to set the standard of comparison when interpretation requires them to do so.Peer reviewe
