Mechanisms of muscular fatigue.
According to Merton (1954), Bigland-Ritchie (1978), Edwards (1981) and De Luca (1984), two groups of mechanisms, central and peripheral, may be distinguished in physiopathology of fatigue process. Central mechanisms are related to subjective phenomena, like fatigue sensation or motivation, and to objective aspects as spatial and temporal motoneurones recruitment
Effects of selenium and vitamin E on muscular strength and blood parameters in Steinert disease.
Six patients with Steinert disease were treated with selenium and vitamin E, for a 24 month period, including a first phase of 12 months, 6 months wash-out interval and a second treatment phase of 6 months. Mean segmental strength values showed significant improvement during the first 12 months of therapy, while marked reductions of serum enzymes CPK, SGOT, SGPT and gamma-GT were observed in some patients. The results support the hypothesis that selenium may play a role in the development of muscle damage in Steinert disease
I diritti umani alla sfida della biologia sintetica tra Unione Europea e Consiglio d’Europa: il caso delle applicazioni sull’essere umano (Human Rights towards the Challenge of Synthetic Biology between the European Union and the Council of Europe: The Case of Applications on Human Being)
The paper analyses the possible impact of synthetic biology applications on human being with regard to health, human dignity and self-determination principle. Thanks to the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights and of the Court of Justice of the European Union, it means to frame the current regulatory framework of those rights entailed by applications aimed at enhancing human performances.
