Her poetry has won for her a Fulbright/Hays Fellowship, as well as fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. Vita.Includes bibliographical references (pages 24-29).Dr. Paul Bach-y-Rita was a visionary neuroscientist and an early pioneer of the theory of neuroplasticity. He is the father of sensory substitution, a field which explores how one sensory modality can be transferred to another. This work culminated in the invention of the Brainport, a device that transmits information through electrodes on the tongue. Bach-y- Rita's company, Wicab, developed two versions of the Brainport. One uses visual information to reveal the sighted world to the blind; another uses body alignment information to help "wobblers" (individuals with vestibular conditions) navigate. The author received exclusive access to Bach-y-Rita's unpublished memoirs. No full textThe paper investigates the processes of re-contextualization in specialized English when moving from the fields of legislation to business. Using a corpus consisting of E.U. and U.K. legislative documents, and the websites of The Big Six Energy Suppliers in the U.K, the author tracks how the language of the regulation for the market in energy and electricity is re-written into the business language of corporations. Adopting a quantitative methodology focused in the main on phraseology, and a qualitative framework focusing on intertextuality and interdiscursivity, the author compares the flow of concepts and principles through these different genres and their transfer across contexts with different interlocutors and participants

Reflexionar sobre como la medicina narrativa propuesta por Rita Charon puede ayudar a mejorar la relación odontólogo paciente. Se realiza una lectura y análisis a profundidad teniendo en cuenta artículos escritos por la autora Rita Charon, donde se quiere encontrar que es la medicina narrativa, cuáles son sus objetivos y como se emplea o se usa al momento de la atención, para la mejora de la calidad y el servicio en odontología. Se hace una búsqueda general de 23 artículos escritos por Rita Charon respecto a la medicina narrativa, las fuentes principales para la búsqueda de los artículos fueron Pubmed, Google Schoolar, Scielo y artículos escritos por dicha autora Resultados Que es medicina narrativa: La autora Rita Charon Utilizo el término medicina narrativa para referirse a la medicina practicada con estas habilidades narrativas de reconocer, absorber, interpretar y emocionarse con las historias de enfermedad. La Medicina Narrativa es la práctica clínica, está fortalecida por la capacidad de saber qué hacer con las historias que el paciente nos cuenta. Los médicos, enfermeros o trabajadores sociales no adquieren esas capacidades en sus facultades, no aprenden a ser lectores, intérpretes y a absorber esos signos. Eso es lo que creemos que puede aportar la Medicina Narrativa” Según la Dra. Charon, que lidera una maestría en Medicina Narrativa en la Universidad de Columbia, no adquirimos estas facultades en el tiempo normal de entrenamiento durante los años de facultad y que resalta que hay un método para capacitarnos y aprender a recibir las historias. To develop a description of the proposal of narrative medicine according to Rita Charon based on eight articles by said author. To ponder as to how narrative medicine proposed by Rita Charon may improve the dentist-patient relation. An in-depth reading and analysis of articles by the mentioned author aimed at figuring out what is narrative medicine, which are its objectives and how it is applied during consultation in order to improve the quality of service in dentistry. A general search of 23 articles by Rita Charon regarding narrative medicine was carried out mainly in PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo. The author used the term narrative medicine to refer to a medicine practiced with narrative abilities to recognize, absorb, interpret and get emotional with stories of disease. Narrative medicine is the clinical practice strengthened by the ability of knowing what to do with the stories relayed by patients. Physicians, nurses or social workers do not acquire this ability so they do not learn to be readers, interpreters or to absorb such signals. This is what Dr Charon aims to achieve, who leads the MA in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. She states that such abilities are not acquired during school but there is a way to train them and learn how to use them.
